As most mobile phone handsets now offer a decent mobile web-browser, I think it would be useful for SF to offer a mobile version of the site.

My handset works well with the mobile version on Facebook, Google, BBC News etc, but I find browsing SF on my mobile difficult on this screen; in addition, it's quite costly in terms of data charges where I can't get onto a WIFI connection.

Does the facility exist for a mobile version of a site using VBulletin? Would other folk find this useful? Imagine the 'live news' aspect the the forum if we could all be roving reporters! :)

I'm sure not every bit of the site could be included; the chat room for example would be difficult; however, I think it would still perform a really useful function. :thumbsup:

It would be good for the Mods, cos it would mean they can still moderate while they're at meets or whatever.

I wouldn't use it though, Vodafone charges me more than enough already for occassional WAP useage! :rant:

Err, no. I think we all have lives away from the forum, and meets are social events not work.

To be honest my mobile displays the forum fine as it is, with mobiles advancing more full browser phones will be coming out so i see it as a little pointless, as in the near future all the new phones will be able to display full web pages anyway??

I was about to protest at how addictive this place is whilst you're tied to a computer, let alone being able to access it on the hoof!... then I realised how useful it'd be to be able to find a dog pub whilst ambling round town (amongst other things) - so this one gets my thumbsup Kristian - brilliant idea :thumbsup:

My phone displays SF fine too, but it obviously uses a lot of download from my monthly allowance. A mobile version would be good for me too. :)

Unfortunately at this time we don't have the time to install and test the necessary modification and template for this feature. The site should load ok on most of the latest internet phones. To reduce your bandwidth you may wish to browse without images enabled. Furthermore, as pointed out earlier in this thread, the ability of phones to handle standard web pages is increasing, as is cheaper and 'unlimited' bandwidth. We may revisit this idea however in the future :)
