which has just finished on Channel 4?
It has not been well received on the whole and the viewing fidgures have apparently been low. I tend to agree that it was very much hit and miss - with more miss than hit, with the characters not really developed and some of the situations looking very contrived. I tohught there were some good moments in it though and I think the guy who played Nathan could well be a rising star. But on the whole I was expecting more from Chris Morris.
Chris Morriss only co-wrote it though. The character was invented in the first place by Charlie Brooker, wo did the TVGoHome website, among other things. I agree, it wasnt as good as it could have been, but have a look at some of Brookers other work, I think youll like it.

I was expecting it to be much better considering the talent involved.

That was part of the joke - Nathan wants to be really cool. That's the meaning of life for him, but he's not sure what to do.
Coolness is a superficial thing, but for him its everything.
I think they are making a second series. I think they deserve another go at it.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed Chris Morris resurrects Jaaam, or brings something new and subversive to channel 4 at least.

I just bought Nathan Barley and i think its fantastic.
The Best thing about the series is Dan Ashcroft, aka, Julian Barratt.

It's a brilliant program.
The episode with the 13 (but not 13) year old cokehead who was (but wasn't) raped by her uncle (who isn't real) is pure genius.

I think it's great. I know quite a few Nathan Barleys.

There's more than a few in the CIQ.....
Indeed, and on Division St...

Ah, Julian Barratt! And of course Noel Fielding in his little cameo as Jones...
I found Dan a more likeable character in the pilot rather than the actual series though - far more cutting and less down-trodden.
I thought Nathan Barley was unbelieveably good.
I was disapointed by it...it wasn't nasty enough (given the bile and venom Brooker put into the TV listing on TV Go Home).
