View Full Version : The state of Saturday morning kids TV
Moonfire 19-03-2005, 11:00 My honey, waiting for the new Captain Scarlet by Gerry Anderson (all CGIed) and looking at the programming it's not very good. One parent trying to convince his kids to run out of the restaurant without paying - surely this is giving the wrong impression to kids and it doesn't give a very good impression of fathers either (Fathers for justice would be up in arms - they will have to go and protest at the ITV studios in Green lantern and Frozone), licking people feet just to get a prize and using real cakes just to fling them up on a wall - now to me all this is wrong, I might as well be watching Dick and Dom - and I hate that!!
on_the_edge 19-03-2005, 12:58 i can remember when kids saturday tv kept all the kids quite till 12-12:30 till dad came in to watch the footy.
noel edmonds and his "swap shop", brill, then mike reid and sarah greene - saturday superstore, then after live and kcking it all went to pot, then on t'other side was no 73 with sandy toskvig, but please correct me if i'm wrong.

Get the kids to watch soccer AM!
Moonfire 19-03-2005, 16:17 TV in them days was totaly different - and I dont think we as children stayed in until twelve anyway - so what makes the difference now? surely that would be unhealthy?
I remember watching going Live and Motormouth when I was a kid, My little brother watches Dick and Dom in Da Bungalow, and that honestly has to be the worst thing Ive seen on tv since chucklevision, but whenever its on my brother is glued to the tv!

Moonfire 19-03-2005, 18:29 I think Dick and Dom is the worst thing to happen to TV in a long while - I don't know how they manage to stay on the TV
Don't worry, kids TV will only get worse...
If you complain, you will be slated and called a prude.
These so called 'kids' programs are always pushing the boundaries of taste. The TV companies know they can get away with it.
Even the music videos are verging on 'soft porn'
(Not to mention innuendo lyrics!!)
It will all back fire of course, but hell who cares, eh???????
We'll just cry in our overpriced beer as usual.
Stop whinging everyone! Dick and Dom are well funny! Kids love em! They don't make the show for boring old farts so go and do something else whilst your kids are having a great time in front of the telly on a saturday morning!
The best period for Children's TV as a whole IMO was the mid-late 1980s, or even as far back as the late 70s/very early 80s.
Some classic programmes back then, and in those days even the BBC's schools programming was better than it is now, stuff like Look and Read, which gave us top stories such as Dark Towers and the Boy from Space etc.
I probably sound really old don't I? I'm only 28, will be 29 a fortnight next Thursday.

CBBC Channel still shows Dark Towers and other Look & Read programmes! I think they're on twice daily, at around 10.30 and noon.

Sorry but im not old, im only 22, Dick and Dom is unfunny, they spend most of the time getting laughs out of other peoples expenses and just pushing the boundaries as much as they can to get a reaction, When I was a kid I used to watch cartoons that seemed to have meanings behind them, Anyone remember "The Raccoons", just because I dont like Dick and Dom doesnt make me a boring old fart. Just remember people are entitled to their own opinions.

Moonfire 21-03-2005, 16:40 well said Suzie - I mean what is funny about shouting "fart" - or whatever they shout - I am sure kids that have been on that show have been mentally scared or something. IMO parents who don't care about what their kids watch will let them watch this - if you want your kids to be well rounded and not take the micky out of others then this show is for them.

I used to watch Pat sharp with a mullet, cover people in cream. Just because i watched it, doesnt mean i want to do it myself...
Moonfire 21-03-2005, 17:06 there is a general difference between flinging a pie and putting someone down just for kicks - I'm all for having a bit of fun but to me that is not fun :(
