Hi

Has anyone read any of the Don Quijote De La Mancha novels? My husband is Spanish and really wants me to read these which I have set a goal to do when we move to Spain in a few years time (I want to read them in Spanish so it will be a slower job lol .... but it will be excellent practise for the Spanish - I will have a little more free time there).

Bearing in mind that until 5 years ago I believed that Don Quijote really existed, I was really surprised when I learned it was just a novel!!! Well, history was never my strong subject! I'm good at languages though, honest.

:D:blush::blush:

I'm really interested to hear the views of anyone who has read them as my husband tells me some people say the novels have had a profound effect on their outlook of life....

Can you elaborate as to why please?

Don Quixote as your first Spanish novel? Crikey! I have a degree in Spanish and it still breaks me out in a cold sweat!

Try 'Historia De Una Escalera' - it's a set Uni text for spanish starters. It's certainly not the likes of 'John has a ball, Jane sees the dog', but not mega hard - pick it up in Blackwells second hand for a couple of quid!

I have read an English translation of Don Quixote, and I had no difficulty with it at all. In fact I think it's one of the best books I've ever read. The version I had was translated by Edith Grossmann. Check it out on Amazon and have a look at some of the reviews.

I finished an English translation just last month and they were an easy but still stimulating and highly enjoyable read, I'd recommend both parts to anybody.

Lol ..... Oh no! :o Its my husband who wants me to read it in Spanish, I'd prefer the English version myself.

Thanks for the tip though.
