Just to update on the outcome of the court case when my daughter was mugged last October.
The little scum bag got a 12 month supervision order, 3 month curfew and has to pay her £50 compensation.
We're dissapointed that he didn't receive a custodial sentance, especially since the court has told us he is in there every few weeks for some crime or other. He's still a juvenile but must surely be getting the message that he can do whatever he wants and still be free to do it again afterwards.
When do the courts decide that enough is enough and sentance them to a custodial?

When they finally realise that he's taking the p**s out of the system and putting two fingers up at them all.

Maybe they are concerned that were they to give out proper sentences to the bile that stands before them, they'd be out of a job and be forced to live in the real world like the rest of us.
As far as I can see, the 'Judicial System' is as big a scum as the 'clients' who stand before them.
And I wonder who he will mug to get the £50 he has to cough up.

He's just made a mistake - see other similar threads - it was probably a mistake or he came from a broken home and needed the things stolen in order to provide for his family.
More likely he got the money to pay the fine from his next deal...and I bet the fine is paid in drips and drabs...if at all.
If he carrys on this way, he'll probably end up going on holiday at the tax payers expense....kenya's nice this time of year...

You forgot the other excuse "his girlfriend is pregnant" but she will stand by him.
Alright let's look at it from a different angle, we are all moaning about the Magistrates and Judges yet how many of us have looked into getting involved in the process of the law, by becoming Magistrates or even taking part in the lay visiting schemes. http://www.icva.org.uk/site/downloads/whatisalayvisitor.pdf
FF, I hope your daughter is ok and that she isn't suffering any flashbacks.

It's about time that threatening violence, - or implied violence in street robbery of this kind (give us your money or else !) was dealt with as if actual violence has been used.

On the subject of excuses for criminal activities........can I enlist the help of all who read this post?
How many times do you read a crime report where the defendant claims he got into trouble because he "got in with a bad lot"? All we need to do is locate this "bad lot', get the police to arrest them, bring them to book, and hey presto,
there will be no more crime. (I'm still waiting to read the crime report where the defendant confesses he is that 'bad lot'!).
