Just read an article in the Star about a 15 year old in Rotherham Who had her tongue pierced 18 months ago and has now been warned by her school that she must remove the stud or sit in a classroom on her own. Should this happen? Should she have the piercing at 15? What do you think?

Personally I think 15 is a bit young. But it doesn't effect her ability to learn. If they don't have a uniform then why are they worried about what jewelery kids wear? So they are going to jeapodize her education for the sake of a piercing? It's not a military school. And why has it taken 18 months for them to react to it. Haven't they learnt that 15 year olds do whatever they want to, when they want to. Get on with teaching and quit trying to stop them from doing something that they are going to do anyway. Fighting a losing battle. Fashion and teenagers. Been there, done that.

i thought you had to be 16 by law to get pierced? i remember that i was the first person at my secondary school to get their belly button done - back then it was an alternative thing to do, (i was a bit of a grunger then) but the mainstream fashion soon caught on.

what used to irritate me was getting told off for wearing blue or black nail polish and ripped jeans, (thats fashion now innit! i guess i was a bit early) yet the slappers that wore jordan style make up, tight low tops and miniskirts were allowed. i found their style much more aggressively distracting than my teenage angst look!

In the reputable place I know of...For ear piercings, you need to have a parent with you if you're under 16. Grandparents or Aunts/Uncles won't do, just parent or legal guardian. Also if there's a teen comes alone and they claim to be over 16, they have to bring ID before they have any piercing done.

Now I know that there's some dodgy little places that'll do it no matter how old you are. I watched a 14 year old girl go undercover for a TV programme and not once was she asked for ID. :o
