View Full Version : The real meaning of "ADHD" ?
Andy the dj 05-04-2008, 13:55 some children are "Special needs" but some are labled with this to put them in a box where sociaty has been told they cant do anything about them.
So the easy option is to give them the title "adhd". Some children are highly strung thats all.
because the world is half full of do gooders and the other half just cant be bothered.
I have three kids one is 22 the other 20 and one at 16.
they were never put in to a box or diagnosed with "adhd" and Thats not luck but B****y hard work as a parent, they respect me for it,and we get on great and they are happy.
there is no disaplin anywhere now,the authorities arnt alowd to get tough and the parents cant be bothered.
sociaty is on a very fast down hill slide,i pitty the world when my grandkids get old.
Grim Reaper 05-04-2008, 14:02 And your evidence to back up this sweeping generalisation and educated medical opinion is.................
MOD: I've stuck this in this forum because I think parents may be better placed to handle this discussion topic.

If any of your kids had ADHD .........trust me you would know about it.
ADHD is a Neurodisability its has nothing to do with bad parenting.
If you want to know what peoples opinions here are on this subject, then do a search..........this topic has been talked to death.
As it has been discussed on numerous occasions, and it just seems to be a very silly, not thought through thread. I propose that the thread is closed as there doesn't seem to be a point in responding to it.

As you might have guessed, this one is a sensitive subject so I shall point you in the direction of the most recent big thread about this issue http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=320493&highlight=adhd and ask that everyone exercise caution and restraint, we like to keep things very peaceful in parenting, thanks :)
Plain Talker 05-04-2008, 18:57 ADHD is real. ask any parent who has an ADHD child.
As others have said, see the other thread for the reality of life with an ADHD child.
You'll just... know ... when you have to get your one-year-old daughter a sleeping draught from your GP in order to "knock her out" in order to snatch some sleep.
You'll just KNOW when your 10 year old cannot drop off to sleep till 1 or 2am.
You'll just know when your child has an inability to focus, and concentrate, on things s/he needs to focus or concentrate on.
The quality of their work at school is poor, despite their obvious capacity and intelligence.
You'll just know, beyond a shadow of a doubt.
Genuine ADHD certainly does exist, and parents and children having to deal with this need all the help and support they can get.
Trouble is so does bad parenting and they would much rather say 'My child has ADHD' than deal with the problem. The fact that they can claim benefits for the condition doesn't help. I even know of a parent who encourages her child to be naughty at school so the money won't stop.
They give the consition a bad name.

I agree with this, I know kids with ADHD, indeed I have a couple of nephews with it and the parents need all the support and help they can get. However I have seen parents stuffing their kids with cola and sweets with lots of artificial flavourings ect, then claim the child has ADHD or is hyperactive :loopy:
