as some of you know my missis runs a cafe/kabin on a building site, well the job is comming to an end in about 8 weeks time, she can move with the site to the next job but it won't/might not be in sheffield,we've talked about getting her her own van but how does the law stand? i know you need a licence from the council but does this licence give her the right to pull up anywhere she likes i.e. building sites, football matches, parks or just in town anyone know?

If you own a catering unit you can park up on private land with the owners permission so building sites should be fine. Most football matches have a lot of units at them and so if she takes some-ones parking spot she'll be in trouble. Also the council has started to charge rent if you park up by the side of the road at matches and the police may move you on. Don't try setting up in a park or other council land as the council again will want to charge you rent. If you go to the Sheffieldshow for example it could cost you several hundreds to have your unit on site. You do need a license I believe it is called a 'hawkers license' and this means your unit will get inspected by health and safety and the food hygeine people. If you want further info send me a pm and I'll have a chat to a couple who actually own and run a unit.
