Think you'll find we don't pay that much tax compared to many others, although it's a complex situ. You could certainly argue that the top 10% are not paying a large enough proportion of income.

Fact is that many govt funded resources are underfunded, not over funded, and that's to keep our tax low!

Well if you smoke you are going to end up draining the NHS of resources because you will probably get cancer or something else due to smoking so rather than raise the NI he levys more tax on the fags themselves.

Easy if u think about it.

"The government are to [sic] gready [sic]" you say. So who will you be voting for in May?

I don't mind tax on cigarettes since I don't smoke them and I would love to see the day when all the pubs go non-smoking.

Well you can keep doing that. There's so much variation on the price of a pint depending on what beer you drink and where you buy it; I hardly think I'll notice the difference.

Much as I enjoy the Museum in question and am looking forward to the reopening...might it not be the case that there are more needful things that accumulating 1p worth of tax will be put towards.

MOD: Moving, not moderating, but only out of the Sheffield forum as I assume the tax rises apply to more than just Sheffield.
