smint 18-03-2005, 01:42 PM Hi, I am a new student in sheffield and found a room in Broomhill opposite to the Somefield supermarket which is a backstreet house. I am not sure if there is safe for a girl and how much the rental as usual? Anyone can give me some suggestion? I am really appreciate your help.
scottf 18-03-2005, 01:52 PM Yeah thats a pretty safe area, always busy with students up that way, for rent i would say around the average price £50-60 week not including bills.
pussycat 18-03-2005, 02:04 PM Broomhill is generally safe in my opinion. I lived there for 3 years in a shared house and had little bother. There's always plenty of people about and you're unlikely to have any bother on the streets.
The area itself is good, it's just some of the student properties aren't as secure as they might be. If it has decent windows and doors, and a well lit access route then you should be fine.
I agree with scottf - about £50 - 60 per week.
Hope that helps and that you settle in :)
broomhill is one of the nicest, safest and coolest areas of sheffield. I wish I lived there!
smint 18-03-2005, 11:46 PM Thanks a lot for you guys. Your advise is really helpful.
Broomhill is perfectly safe.. Just don't listen to people on here who think students are all scum of the earth.
And no, I don't.. I am one.
Pauline BHG 19-03-2005, 10:18 AM Yeah - I must admit, I work at the Uni of Shef, and students aren't the *stereotypical* bunch I always expected. It's the best job I ever had ! Great atmosphere :-)
Anyway, back on topic heheheheh.... My workmates advised me that Broomhill was a great area, when I first started and was looking for a flat. They've all lived in Sheffield all their lives , so I believe them !
Longcol 19-03-2005, 11:33 AM Can't think of a better area to live if you're a student.
gruff 21-03-2005, 11:45 AM personal safety-wise, not heard much bad stuff about broomhill's but in terms of burglary etc it's got a higher crime rate than many other areas including the supposedly dodgy ones.
my mate lived in one of the back street houses down opposite somerfield - very nice houses - he got his car radio nicked on his first night there.
having lived in both, i think the best student area is hunter's bar not broomhill!
rlara 21-03-2005, 12:08 PM it's good n safe. i've lived and worked there, and life is what you make it, but like everywhere crime is on the up, so don't be naiive, or get too complacent.

not a particularly poor student? broomhill is fine, but it gets a bit claustrophobic with studentness. the first year i lived there i did get beaten up in the street... which was nice, but it did seem to be a freak occurance.
mmilsted 23-03-2005, 12:38 AM yes, broomhill is considered to be rather safe
bobhorgan 23-03-2005, 10:40 AM I'd say that Broomhill is relatively safe, I lived there for nearly 3 years and never heard of any real trouble.
The area is full of students, which can be a pain in the arse especially when they all arrive back on the same day after holidays
S_TEN 04-04-2005, 12:13 AM Hi smint, you'll have no worries living in Broomhill, there's always people about and loads of amenities as well, till the earliy hours of the morning.
malton_s5 04-04-2005, 09:49 PM hi broomhill is a very safe and nice area its broomhall you want to watch very high with crime, every crime you could think of
If Broomhill ain't safe then God help the rest of us!
sigmar14 09-04-2005, 12:08 AM BROOMHILL'S NEVER HAD A BAD REPUTATION UNLIKE BATEMOOR WHICH ISN'T BAD ANYMORE BUT YOUST TO BE REALLY ROUGH I JUST HOPE THAT SOMEBODY SAYS SOMETHING ABOUT BATEMOOR I'LL TELL THEM TO CATCH THE NUMBER 75 BATEMOOR BUS FROM TOWN TO BATEMOOR AND GO AND SEE THE AREA FOR THEM SELVES IN THE SOUTH OF THE CITY RIGHT NEXT TO THE COUNTRYSIDE!!!
JamesT 10-04-2005, 07:30 PM Broomhill is lovely and the Broomhill Friery is a quality dispenser of cholesterol. Fox and Duck is a pleasant watering hole.
gruff 11-04-2005, 10:05 AM Fox and duck is a good boozer, but has anyone noticed the large amount of youngsters getting served there these days - none of them can hold their ale.
