I know this thread has been done before but they are a bit out dated-ie last year. And i know restaurants can change from time to time.

Does anyone have any recommendations where to go for a curry on sat night in the city centre after a few drinks? Thank you

Best I have been tor ecently was 7 Spices on Shalesmoor, but haven't frequented all the City Centre curry places.

Have heard good things about Akhbars (sp?) too in Leopold square

Chamans or Gulshan on the Wicker, take your own booze if you want a drink and very good food. Only 5-10 min walk.

I like Nirmals, though I realise the owner gets a few peoples backs-up.

Yeah Cafe Guru is great but it depends how you are 'after a few drinks'?! Its not a Lager lout abuse the waiters type place!

I love that place, she is a little over bearing but the food is fab :D

7 spices is great but they do tend to rush you out, the one in leopold square is very good but didn't see a vast amount of variety in their dishes..

He he may have been thrown out a few years ago then, but i know how to handle the drink now. I may even be DES-Designated driver anyway so i will be boring an sober-the perfect customer.

i'd back 7 spices, it's great. avoid the one under the showroom opposite station- vile vile vile.

If you're going to venture to the wicker, you may as well go up spital hillto mangla- nice decor, ace food, avoid Kashmir on the corner it's a dump and vastly overrarted.

Avoid the Mangla, vastly over rated!

Also Vjays is all style over content.

Butlers Balti House for me, if you're out towards the West Street part of town. It's at the top of Broad Lane by the University roundabout.

I would back Cafe Guru or Aaaghah in Leopold Square which has a bit of a wider ranging menu. Both yummy :)

We decided to go to shapla (at the bottom of the moor) in the end as our friends had visited it before, but not since its refit several months ago. It was lovely, very nice decor modern and clean yet not losing the traditional style becoming the new 'contempory' indian of which i find cafe guru is (although food was good here, (cafe guru) i found it a little too westernised and a tad expensive)
But going back back to Shapla, the food was great not greasy at all and my stomach never suffered which is very often the case when i have curry. The curries did all look very similar but tasted quite different as expected. It was very reasonable too. i will be going again.

I have tried nearly every indian restaurant in sheffield (city centre and surrounding areas) and for food and service it HAS to be Cafe Guru. The food is absolutely exceptional and the staff are all attentive, polite and punctual. There are a couple of drawbacks though, in that it is more expensive than other ones in the area and it is very modern. That said the quality of the food really does make it worth it and it is always packed at the weekend - a good indicator. Dont expect to go in a group of lads after a massive drinking session though as it is not that sort of place.

Mmh..where is Cafe Guru? I have not heard of it?

I'd say Agra's in Leopold Square is really good.

However, if your looking for cheap and fast, then Kebabish on the wicker is excellent.
