I would like to say that I am a big fan of the Hillsborough, and would class it as my 'local'. I would like to see if any one else has the same view as me.

The beer and selection of beer (camra pub etc) is stunning, I have no worries about that at all. I can always find at least 2 or 3 beers that I want to drink! My issue is the change of menu, I used to eat there reasonably regularly, and loved the changing menu. It was not just microwaved pub food, but a selection of well prepared, well priced good pub food. The pies were second only to my Grandma's! The menu has changed recently, but is fixed, with the exception of the sausage and mash. The only pie is the meat and potato(in my view the weakest on the menu), and the sublime black pudding mash is missing. The price has also gone from £4 to £5, I can live with this as the food was worth it.

This post is not saying that the food is poor, just not as good as it used to be, for whatever reason. They seem to have capable kitchen staff who are now shackled into producing the same stuff, I say let creativity in the kitchen run, especially if it involves beef in ale pie and the aforementioned mash!

I have recommended the food there to numerous friends and would not want to see my reputation suffer, so yes I am very slightly biased!!!!! My view is that at the minute I am going to have to try other pubs for food, although I really want the Hillsborough to be my first choice.

No it is still Andy and Helen.....I am not sure what has gone on, I have looked through the threads and people have even been discussing the old menu and asking what was on!

To be honest, I went on Thursday for lunch and I was quite disappointed. I had the meat and potato pie, and it was quite average. My daughter had the burger, and it was quite inedible, they had put some sort of herbs or something in it, which is okay, but it ought to have said, as my daughter didn't like it.

I used to live nearby and go regularly. Often to meet friends but sometimes just to read in the outer glass bit as it's nice and friendly and quiet. The beer is nice and reasonably priced and the bar staff friendly. I miss it.
