View Full Version : Shipman's widow demands return of 'victims' jewellery
THE widow of Harold Shipman is insisting that she is the rightful owner of valuable jewellery that police believe the serial killer stole from his elderly victims.
Primrose Shipman has demanded the return of the jewellery, worth an estimated £10,000, which was seized from the doctor’s home when he was arrested in 1998, police said yesterday.

I wonder if this woman knew what Shipman was doing, seeing as she seems so intent on profiting from his crimes. She is becoming as vile as he was in my eyes.
Owdlad,
The audacity and insensitivity of this stupid woman beggars belief. It reminds me of when Peter Sutcliffe's father moaned about Police confiscating his son's tools, some of which had been used in the murders. "They are all I have of him", said Sutcliffe senior. Comment would be superfluous.
I think I read that Primrose, Shipmans wife is somewhat slow or has learning difficulties so the horror of his crimes perhps does not sink in. He probable married her for that reason.
Still is no excuse I know.

Cutglass 18-03-2005, 09:31 Seems to me these people have got a screw loose, how could any normal person bear to look upon items connected to such vile atrocities and then demand that it's their right to keep them.
For each piece of jewellery, it's the victims families memories of that person that has been defiled and as for tools, well that defies belief, these tools could have been considered for use in the very acts of murder for which he was committed.
In my mind they're are as sick as their murderous offspring/relatives.

she hasn't demanded, that's just using emotive language to get the response you want.
her solicitors have requested that the police return all the items which were seized from him. That happens to include items of jewellery which the police believe may have belonged to victims.
The families of the victims have a month to provide evidence (what that constitues i'm not sure) that the items belonged to their loved ones otherwise by law they have to return the items to shipmans estate.
This is the same as with anything else seized by the police, if they can't prove that it was stolen it goes back to the person or their estate.

I hadn't read about that Hazel, and it would certainly explain why she does some of these things, but surely her solicitor (who incidentally it is that has written claiming back these items) should be advising her of what is and isn't acceptable.

I didn't know solicitors were supposed to advise on morals, I thinough they just dealt with the law ?

her solicitor isn't her moral adviser, he'll be adversing her on what she can and cannot legally do. And reclaiming property that the police are still holding (having found no-one who can identify it as stolen) is a sensible and legal course of action.
She also has 4 sons too who also ought to be advising her owdlad ( I hope they do not go into medicine)
Perhaps it's just the press and it's the usual thing to ask for property back after the police have finished with it.
She may only be accepting what is hers.?

There is already another Doctor Shipman (I bet he has lost a few patients) hopefully he isn't related.
I agree that if the Jewellery can be proven to belong to her then sure return it, but only if she can provide reciepts, and how many collectors would have it hidden in the garage.
My personal view is that if it had been any relative of mine who had committed these crimes I would do anything to distance myself from them, not keep popping back up raking over the coals, it's like she is enjoying seeing the victims families suffer.
Didn't realise they were hid in the garage.
If it was my husband I should be so ashamed and guilty I should be making retribution on my knees. There goes my catholic up bringing.
