A new series on C4 right now, all about Britain's greatest cities. This week is about the cities on the M62, but next week is the M1 and covers Sheffield. Looks very promising.

Ignored - as usual. Meadowhell got a brief mention but that's it.

Hundreds of years of steelmaking history dismissed in an instant in favour of a shopping centre.

Missed it :( Though if the crits above are anything to go by it looks like I didn't miss much ;) Was the whole programme presented by Will Alsop? Does anyone know any of his buildings?

The whole series of 3 programmes is presented by Will Alsop, who is an amazing and visionary architect (in my opinion - admittedly he's not everyone's cup of tea). His most famous building in this country is Peckham Library which won the Stirling Prize 2 or 3 years back (http://www.open2.net/modernity/3_18.htm)

Last year he won the competition to design the 'Fourth Grace' on Liverpool waterfront, next to the Liver Building. This project is currently in pre-planning stages. He is able to 'think big', which is why he seems to be currently finding favour with local authorities who want innovative ideas about future development potential. Not all his ideas are actually meant to be put into practice - they're more about starting discussion and introducing fresh perspectives.

His 'Supercities' series is not 'about' individual cities as such. It is about how our major stretches of motorway could form the spine of future 'supercities', based on the ways in which we are already developing. Friday's was about the M62 from Liverpool to Hull.

For dischuffed Sheffielders who think the city was ignored, he barely mentioned Leeds either, and as Sheffield is probably 30 miles away from the M62 and the programme was just half an hour, it's probably not worth getting paranoid about.

Did anyone see Billy Conolley last week? He travelled to Manchester, Bradford and Sheffield. Sheffield was barely seen at all apart from the canal. I know we might be the prettiest town but surely we have a lot of history worth mentioning.
