View Full Version : Weird achingness illness!

About 1.15 pm today I suddenly came down with some incredible feeling of aching in my whole body - like I'd been beaten up or something, or like I hadn't slept for days. It's a huge strain to even move around the house and I've had a splitting headache all day long and been asleep on the sofa for about 2 hours.

It's still here, but the weird thing was that I got home and both my mum and her boyfriend have got it - it came on suddenly just like me, my mum had to come home early - and all the people from her office had it too!

Anyone else experiencing this odd 'illness'?

I don't mean to scare you but have a look at the symptoms for meningitis on the nhs direct website. You probably (almost definitely) won't have it but its really important to catch it early if you do! (like, before you drop down dead)

Unfortunately the NHS Direct self help errs on the side of panic. I presume this is a measure to ensure that people who really do need help are more likely to see and follow the 'Dial 999!' alert, while those of lesser illness will be put straight by the operator.

For instance, I put my back out doing some heavy lifting, so I checked it just to see if there were any hints and tips on recovery (apart from a nice cup of tea and a biscuit). Apparently the only possible cause for back pain in adults in imminent heart failure!

Incidentally, I haven't dropped down dead, and my back is OK now, so I guess it was much ado about nothing.

Hmm well I had flu recently and I has the aches but also a cold, sore throat, queasiness, high fever....and this is just the aches.

Slept through my piano lesson, whoops!

And meningitis? Well I had my immunisation but they don't guard against all types do they? But anyway how likely is it that me, my mum, and all her colleagues suddenly procured Meningitis?!

Hi Noseyrosie

Had just the same at Christmas and so did work mates and family. I don`t remember Christmas Eve or Christmas day (not even what i got) I just remember aches and sleep and feeling crap. Felt better day from day 3 onwards.

Just rest.

Maybe but that lasts weeks! I had that when I was 15 lasted 6 weeks and that was only a mild dose.

Probably a virus as there are lots of them around at the moment but if you have had flu recently you may not have got rid of that properly yet as it can linger for longer than you think.
