Does anyone else on here like Persian cats?

I think they are lovely animals.

Lets hear it for the cats:clap:

Are Persians as vocal as oriental cats like Siamese and Burmans?

Jarvis here is half Burman and apart from the noticable triangular face that now, as he's getting older, is rounding out a bit that most says 'oriental cat' to me is his sheer vocal repetoire. Umpteen really annoying ways of saying 'Feed me','Let Me Out','Let Me In'. :)

Although I admire all felines for their grace and beauty and have provided a home for quite a few over the years .. have to say you can't have a better companion than a dog ...

Dogs do so many things for us too, search and rescue, seeing eye, assist, guard ... and they do it without wanting anything in return ...

off topic probably (in case t020 is lurking ;)) but I have to cast my vote for the dogs ...

Persian cats are great, I find they have so much more character than normal cats, they can be a pain when it comes to grooming but apart from that they are great. :)

Binky does not get groomed enough for show but don't want to shown him, he does not mind if he has big chunks missing out of his fur where he got all tangled!

Am I right in saying that Persians have a more placid temperament than other cats? Or is there something about long haired cats in general that this applies to, for example Ragdolls?

It is a pain grooming him but i love him to bits! He miows at us when we come in from work untill we sit down on the sofa so he can sit on our laps! All he does is sleep!

Well both my persians are quite placid, they are also very posh (pedigree dontch know :)) and yes grooming is a nightmare, especially as they are moulting their winter coats now. I must spend as long taking cat hair off my coat as I do grooming them and even then I seem to be trailing it all over the place!
I was never overlly keen on cats but my partners mum is a breeder (hence the pedigree) and so I gave in. Wouldn't be without them now.
What amazes me is how distinct their personalities are - I always thought cats were just cats if that makes sense?

I love persian cats. They are so fluffy and cute.

I've heard a few people say that they look grumpy but they are honestly really affectionate.

I also of course love them being half persian myself ;) :D

I've got two persians, and we had another who sadly died :(

They've all been pedigree, and they're beautiful. We've currently got Vinnie (whose ginger...) and Libby (whose a rather hairy long haired persian!)

yes they are but they make no bones about the fact. People have said my cats are ugly and have squashed up faces, ah the joys of inbreeding! Still I love my cats to death despite the omnipresent fluff which no amount of cleaning will shift and I would not be without them.

For all their independece they often run to the door to meet us when we come home after a long day and when himself is working late they come and cuddle up and keep me company *looks soppy and slopes off to bed*

Heres my persian for anyone who is interested. She has recently been shaved around the sides so has a mohecan style. Thats what you get if you dont groom them properly.

If they are like Siamese cats then I would love one.

But my preferred choice of pussy would have to be one of the really ugly ones - you know like Mr Bigglesworth on Austin Powers.

Sphynx cats I think they are called.

How evil do they look? Its like they have been slapped with an ugly stick far too many times.

neeeeeek: what an incredible cat.... HOW BIG!!!

kittykat: that looks gawjous!!

I completely and utterley love cats not specifically persian but have had numerous cats throughout the years.

I have a mad dog called george a cross border collie/lurcher and my two cats own me.

Skinny black - 15yrs called Tinker

Fluffy tabby - 10yrs called Katie

My cats are DEFINATELY THE BOSS!!! and my sisters cat which is enormous is soooooooo ARD he has made my dog physically wet himself through fear, pinning him down to the floor!!

My old cat actually pinned a staffordshire bull terrier to the floor after the dog had been barking at him for 5 minutes.

DONT UNDER ESTIMATE CATS..... they know!!!!!

Not really a fan of the long haired breeds of cat, like the shorthairs. Much easier to groom!!

I've had siamese in the past but liked the colouring. I wanted a persian cat but didn't like the squashed in face. I opted for a ragdoll breed. Max has the colouring of a siamese and the coat of a persian. Mind you, he can't half stuff his face. He's 6 months old now and is as big as Molly my Jack Russell. Awesome cat

Could someone please tell Takara this? :suspect:

I've never actually had a persian cat, we have a long haired cat who may have some persian in her but she's a bit of everything.

Have to say we had a siamese cross who was just fantastic so if they are anything like those - yes they're ace!

I'm not overly keen on their looks to be honest. I'm not one for squashed faces on dogs or cats but not having seen their characters, I can't comment on what they're like!

First - not just picking on your post as I know others have posted similar but needed to show what I'm about to rant about.

Assuming this hasn't only just been moved to pets section - this is not the type of post welcomed in pets section. Thats why we have the pet section.

If it has only just been moved, I apologise and whoever moved it should have removed posts such as these (in my opinion).

That's a tough call - as the thread title actually asks 'do you like them'. Had it asked 'any persian cat fans/owners' I'd have been able to prune out and very negative comments ;)

unfortunately, in this instance, people are entitled to their say in either direction - but any posts advocating violence or the 'removal' of cats will disappear without trace ... as in another thread ;)

Janny - clear your inbox ;)
