There are plenty of discussion boards out there that allow embedded images, and it's often annoying in the photography forum when images can't be embedded, especially since often they're smaller sized images that LINK to larger to images at websites such as flickr.
Would it be possible to allow embedded images on a forum-by-forum basis? Other forum software allows this, and also allows you to set a maxium size for embedded images, and then to either reject larger images, or to force the browser OR server to resize them. If vB still haven't implemented this functionality then there is a small mod (http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=157228&page=8) that I know of several huge sites using that allows images to be resized.
It isn't server intensive either, so that shouldn't be an issue. Especially if you enable it on a forum-by-forum basis.
This would be fabulous, the POTN forum (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/) does it brilliantly, I'm sure SF could do it even better :)

I'd vote for this (if the voting was enabled)...
.
This has been introduced for your forum on a trial basis. We are not looking to extend it to other groups at this stage - at least until we are happy with the results of the test.
Wow, thats fab, thanks !
How do we use it ?
Find the web site address (URL) of the image you want to show in the forum. Make sure that you are allowed to embed the image - generally if they give you the embed link then it's ok, but double check.
Once you have the URL/link just type before the address and at the end:
[IMG]http://www.animagesite.com/theimage.jpg[/IMG]
Like that :)
I'm not being funny, but doesn't being allowed to embed images into the forum create a potential problem for the Mods in trying to keep the embedded pics "clean" and "family friendly"?! I thought that's why they didn't allow embedded images from the start?

No, it's an editable link that can be removed from the post if needed. It's no different from anyone posting a masked swear word, once reported (or seen by a GL) it'd be gone.
I believe images weren't allowed due to increase in bandwidth and page loading times. Bandwidth isn't an issue as all the photos are links to other sites, so they're not costing SF anything. Page loading times are subjective, in a photography forum people should expect to see photos so have no clause of complaint if a page takes a little longer to load.

Like that :)Thank you Geoff!!
I recommended enabling the IMAGE tag on the car base remember??

Would it be possible for members of this section to remove their own posts?
As you probably know I had a few problems in embedding images and now have posts with no pictures on them, just some meaningless words. This would also give members the opportunity to update their own threads.
Many thanks.

If you want a post removing you can click on the report button and in the comment ask for it to be removed.
