My wife is now 20 weeks pregant with our first child. We have always been avid cinema-goers but I have recently started to get a little concerened about potential noise damage to our little ones ears whilst we're in the auditorium. We went to see The Orphanage at the Showroom last week it was pretty noisy in places! I know that the baby is surrounded by a lot of stuff in there - but some of that noise must still filter through. What do you SF'ers think?

Personally I think there are louder places than the cinema so I think it should be ok but with subjects such as this I would research the subject and form your own opinion based on what you have read. :)

As you will see - mixed reactions from the same site! No wonder people get confused!

He'll be well protected in there. If your worried put your coar over your wife's belly to muffle the sound

My baby hated my husbands boss talking on the microphone at his Christmas Party!!!!!
i went to a meatloaf concert when i was 8 months pregnant, mini biffalo loved it he was jigging around in there all the time, now there is only one meatloaf song that will calm him down (so much for classical music!) His ears were fine at his newborn hearing test and 9 months on there appears to be no problems.

i'd be more worried about missing half the film due to the constant need for a wee :hihi:
i used to follow the touring cars around the uk (long long time ago) and when i was pregnant with my eldest he used to 'jump' in my tummy at the loud noises caused by the cars as they went past.
I dont know if it is related but he used to jump at the slightest noise as a baby and until he was about 5-6 years he hated loud noises.
Now as a teenager he has always got something playing loudly so i think he grew out of it :)
In response to your question - i wouldnt worry too much but go on how active the baby is during the viewings. If it gets too uncomfortable then it may be time to stop going.

I've never heard anyone ask this before...my main concern has always been about running to the loo, lol. Still, anything that worries you is worth checking out.
I went to the cinema a lot (got it in while I could). I also listened to music in the car kinda loud (veeerryy loud). I always got the feeling he was enjoying it in there, grooving about, and he came out with an eclectic taste in music, which didn't include nursery rhymes for ages, lol. He was more of a rock baby.
His hearing is perfect - except, as yummy said, for selective deafness: a terrible condition that occurs only at tidy up time, at bedtime, and when he is about to be in trouble. :hihi:
I went to a few concerts when I was pregnant and the cinema was about my only form of evening entertainment when I was pregnant with my first. She has nothing wrong with her hearing!

Thanks people. We went to the cinema tonight. Baby kicked for a while at first, but then settled down. It's a pity that the movie was awful!

I spent a lot of time in Rock pubs when I was pregnant with loud music didnt seem to bother baby Powerage at all. She has perfect hearing except when I ask her to help with housework or do her homework:hihi:
