Those two plugins alone would be worth paying for. Not just to remove ads, but also extraneous banners and images not required on the site I am viewing. Some sites load slowly because they are pulling in ads and stuff from other servers. By getting rid of the ads the page load times drop drastically.

Other ones in routine daily use are:

NoScript (this is the other extension I would not be without) - it stops any javascript, flash, java etc from running without your explicit permission
Web Developer Toolbar - handy tools for website developers
Firebug - more handy tools
Fasterfox - Connection and rendering tweaks (pipelining etc) for Firefox, speeds up browsing.

for the record, a few of the above extensions have memory leaks (causing firefox to really eat up RAM). Notably (last time I checked) : filterset.g updater, fasterfox, forecastfox, foxytunes. Just so you know..
