View Full Version : Tired of skate boarders?
Anyone else getting fed up with the skate boarders flying around the city centre? It's not that I'm a miserable sod who hates to see people enjoying themselves, but those skate boards make a right racket.
The council has provided areas for people to skate (or they could use the quiet back streets), but no, they prefer the attention of skating down the busy streets :( where we can all be ever so "impressed".
It's not that I've got anything against the people who skate, it's just where they choose to do it and the respect (or lack of) they show to fellow pavement users.
/rant over.
DaBouncer 26-09-2003, 16:01 Just stick your foot out next time they skate past. Watch em go flying!
Did you never have a skateboard Geoff? are you not impressed by these guys and gals grinding the kerbs and benches of our city?
Maybe you are a miserable sod;)
I have not really experienced the problems but I guess they are just youths trying to impress the girlys.
Maybe if I get my ankles rammed by some benjiboard then I may have a different view on things.
Me, skate?
Nah... I need more ordination cord
billyblade 26-09-2003, 16:28 I know about all the little kids with the boards around the City Hall, harmless really. Reason they dont use the purpose built place on the Devonshire Green site is because its not safe for them there. They will get their mobiles nicked by certain people.

Flying around the narrow pavements on West and Devonshire Street is annoying. Sure the official skate part might be dangerous, but why can't they find somewhere less public? I think it's more about being "seen" as opposed to anything else?
1Man&hisBMW 26-09-2003, 19:03 I don't mind them so much as long as they stay out of causing trouble. Anything other than that, i'm sure is just fun for them.
Any skaters I have encountered over the times have always stopped and moved out of the way when i'm walking around Devonshire Green etc. Could be because I'm a scary b*stard.

Carlwarker 26-09-2003, 21:04 CROWDED pavements should not be open to skate-boarders or cycles, for that matter.
Can you seriously think that they are not a danger to pedestrians?
ps. and I am not an intolerant old-git, just one who has 'common' sense' - something seemingly getting less common these days.
kittykat 26-09-2003, 22:36 the only good thing about them is when they try to do something fancy on them and they fall over HAHA the look on their faces frantically looking round to see if anyone has noticed

I saw an elderly Lady ran into in Tudor square by a skateboarder and the Ladies son threatened to lamp him one. it was at a time when everyone was going to the Theatre!!!
Phanerothyme 27-09-2003, 19:29 In my experience most skaters are canny enough to pick a good spot away from people. Some don't and as usual give the rest of them a bad rep.
Good skaters are always a pleasure to watch as they appear to have the board glued to their feet as they fly through the air, very impressive!
