As a southerner living up north I sometimes find that the different dialects can hinder communication. Therefore, to try and aid communications between southern and northern brothers and sisters, I am working on a brand new dialect - Yorkshire Rhyming Slang (YRS). The hope is that one day YRS will become the dialect of our great nation.
Here are some examples:
Rubber (Duck) = Chuck
“Eh up me old rubber!” Translates as: “Hello dear.”
(Flying) Picket = Snicket
“Let’s go down tut picket, it’s quicker.” Translates as: “Let’s take this shortcut.”
By Ec = Ecclesall Road (not place)
“By ek, by ec.” Translates as “We appear to be on Ecclesall Road.”
Google (Searching) = Kerching
“Aa’ll google thee in tut noggin!” Translates as: “I’m going to punch you hard in the head and try and knock you out!”
Please post your suggestions and feel free to correct any linguistic errors on my part. Thank you!
