I don't, I don't like children, except in small doses of a couple of hours.

Well, I'm not a fan of babies. They smell funny and make loads of noise. However, recently I keep thinking how cute they are. I've started to appreciate my niece more too (she's 6). I've realised that kids are pretty funny.

Though having a niece is easier because it's like having a part time kid. You can just give them back when they get annoying. I suppose if I actually had one myself, it'd follow me around and stuff. That might get a bit irritating.

I don't know, maybe it's a sign that my head wants me to settle down. Tough! I'm not going to. ha!

All living creatures have an innate desire to procreate, so on a very basic level the answer must be yes. However, as broodiness is usually associated with women, I suppose what you are asking is if men get broody in a similar way to women.
Due to biological differences, the answer in a general is probably no, altohugh there are women who have no maternal instincts and there are men who probably would be categorised as broody for at least part of the time. One obvious gender difference is that the procreatory clock doesn't tick for men in the same way as for women, in that men can procreate throughout life (aided these days by those little blue pills). So the broody urge in men is probably not so insistent.

Occasionally and in brief bursts - though I am fully aware that I would be the worlds worst dad (any kids I had would be spoiled rotten and get away with murder *blush*) so I will settle for being an uncle I think - at least untill I grow up!!

Yeah i get really broody, sometimes i just wanna settle down right now and start having kids and do the grown up thing!! I adore kids and love some of the daft things they say and do!

But i am only 23 and i think thats too young to start having kids (in my circumstances anyway) so im just gonna wait and im sure it will all happen naturally when its supposed to!!

I too get very broody, probably more so than my girlfriend. I'm always pulling silly faces at babies when i'm in a queue with one trying to make him/her laugh. I do want kids NOW but like scottf I am only 23 and I want to have more savings and own a house instead of just renting before I have any. A few more years away i'm afraid.

Hmm... well I think it's sort of true but in a different way to women...

Somehow it seems that the female broodyness is brought about by the whole baby bundle, seeing kids laughing in the park routine...

Blokes on the other hand (well me anyways) tend to let the old imagination kick in. Hear their mates talking about their X year old, etc.

... and then in direct reverse to the female of the species this gets promptly stamped on when I do come back into contact with children for a prolonged 5 hour period and remember what it's really like to have children...

 Oh I like them but I'm not about to beg for ankle biters just yet ta :gag: :suspect: :loopy: :D

A man who does not have children remains a child all his life.

Is this just procreationist propaganda or does it express a profound truth?

I've never really had the urge to have kids - as babies or toddlers they're just too needy and I have enough to worry about looking after myself.

If, in the far and distant future, I ever wanted any then I'd be tempted to adopt - I know it sounds a bit pants, but I can't (at present) justify bringing another person into the world when there are too many kids in need of a good home.

I imagine in years to come I'll feel differently and that me and the missus may well start dropping sprogs at the drop of a hat but for the moment I kinda like my plan.

Right. So not what you'd call 'conclusive proof' then? :suspect:

To go back on topic.

Yes, blokes get broody. Psychologists have proven that men have a hormonal cycle that is in fact shorter than womens (this isn't to say they get full fledged PMS, but they can get a bit mardy evry 25 days).

Because of this therwe will be times on this cycle when they get all broody too. So there you go, science to the rescue.

What on earth has sexuality got to do with wanting kids?? That's completely different!

Because sexuality isn't a choice?

Did you choose to be straight, or did it just feel normal to you?

I'm not gay but Id expect its just the same feeling for a homosexual person except with more prejudice from a society who think it is a choice, not a characteristic.

On a very basic level, attraction to a particular person and the desire to have children with that person are closely related.

Ever heard the phrase 'child-bearing hips'? A person who looks fit will probably have a better chance of producing fit offspring. Even though this may not be on a conscious level, physical attraction is influenced by pereceptions of procreative potential. Go forth and multiply!
