View Full Version : Changing and keeping your "folder options" in XP

Every time I turn my computer on, I set my folder options to "details" and to show just the columns "Name", "Type", "Size and "Date modified". Yet the next time I log on I find it's reset itself and is showing the files as thumbnails! I then change it back to "details" yet then find that the columns change depending on the type of files within the folder. For example if I open a folder of mp3s I get lots of spurious columns telling me irrelevent information such as "duration", "year" and "Album track is from"!

How do I set the folder options to suit and keep them that way so they don't reset themselves next time I log on?

tools, folder options, view, apply to all folders

Yes, that's what I do, but next time I log on the view has reset itself to the "thumbnails" default.

Try doing it again (but don't close the explorer window - instead minimize it instead).

Next right click Explorer on the task bar, then select close.

This may work?

Tools -> Folder options -> View tab -> in the advanced settings bit scroll down the list and make sure there's a tick in the 'Remember each folder's view settings' box.

Also if you set a folder to 'details' view before you go into the menu and apply settings to each folder, it _should_ set all folders to details view by default. It's always worked that way for me...

Hope that sorts it,
