i am now in the market for one of those range type cookers, you know the ones - double ovens 6+ burners. looking around it seems that most of them have gas burners but electric ovens, having been brought up cooking on gas i am naturally wary of electric ovens. with a bit of searching i can find all gas ones but am i loosing out by my "prejudices"?
The questions are
are modern electric ovens more economical then gas ones
is gas still better to cook with than electric?

I personally prefer Gas ovens (even though the one we have is a fan assisted electric oven).
If you enjoy cooking then the temperature control you get with gas cannot be matched with an electric oven.
Same goes for the hob.
Hi Alchemist..(ooops!)...
We wanted exactly the same and it was really difficult to get a gas oven - my other half swears by gas to giving into electric wasn't an option. We ended up with a 5 burner gas hob and a separate gas oven which is just as nice!
I am sure you would get one somewhere though. There is a little kitchen shop at Handsworth called Purdy's and he has loads of brochures - give him a call and see what he could order for you.

Most people prefer cooking with gas but as you've noticed most of the ranges and packs (hob + oven) are duel fuel - electric hob and gas oven. If you want a gas oven then it will cost a bit more so it's up to you to decide if it's worth it or not :)
It's worth calling in at Powerline at Darnall and seeing what Jason has in - they deal in B grade stock as well as A.

had all electric when I first left home and was a bit skint but I hated it, hated having to wait for the grill or rings to get hot enough to actually cook anything. Couldn't wait till I started working and could buy a real proper cooker, all gas....woo hooo made toast all day long
I've always preferred gas for reasons of control.
Also, I'm convinced that oven cooking with gas gives a 'moister' heat - don't ask me why - I try and justify it with the water vapour produced during gas combustion...:)
