Just a quickie to say that I watched some heats of the British Olympic Swimming Trials at Ponds Forge this evening, and wasn't disappointed by the event!
Several swimmers in many of the heats are also trying out the controversial new Speedo LZR Racer Bodysuit, and from my own observations, winners in many of the heats, especially some of the Ladies heats, were those wearing the sleek black outfit, although I don't know how much of their performance might ultimately be due to overall form rather than what they are wearing.
The revolutionary LZR suit has featured recently in news stories asking whether it is so streamlined that it constitutes cheating, and the current trials are supposed to be a proving ground for this outfit and how it measures up to those wearing alternative outfits.
The LZR is still effectively 'on trial' as an approved outfit for the Olympics, but whether or not the IOC officials clear it for competition, it sure gets my seal of approval, for beating anything else in defining the sleek line of athletes' bodies!
Being an occasional swimmer myself, I have a Speedo Fastskin suit, and I can vouch that that feels faster than a mere pair of trunks in the water, so hopefully the LZR will simply be accepted as an incremental step in the development of even better equipment.
One of the beauties of the Olympics (and there are few decent things left to celebrate about it, with commercialisation and the admittance of professionals) is that it consists of sports which use the skill of mind and musclepower alone -i.e. no motorsport or OTT commercial showmanship allowed....
Finally, bag yourself a bargain at the Speedo swimwear stand in the Foyer at Ponds forge all week until Sunday while the rtials are on. there are lots of swimwear bargains, including jammers, kneeskins, bodyskin suits, etc...
