I thought that all the Taxi's had those locking doors now? Oh, and meters

Or was it a mini-cab? They do seem to be a bit eratic with charges.

I'm not speculating anything here, but on Sunday night my wife and I ordered a cab to take us to Champs on Eccie Road from thr Shiny Sheff, Lodge Moor. As usual, it took ages to come and when it did, the fella didn't even know how to get to Ecclesall Road - and he had satellite mapping!

Then he charges us £5.50!

(When we informed him that his company was crap he didn't understand.) Whilst wishing to tread carefully, the question is: How can you know whose cab you are getting into? ie, who precisely IS that driver??

The star said it was a Black Cab and usually they have doors which automatically lock if the car is stationary at the lights etc. But when it’s driving the doors are un locked because you’d have to be pretty desperate to jump from a moving car.

deejay: :( sorry to hear about this incident..... theres too many occurrances with taxis these days - its scarey to think that usually when we do get in them after a night out were normally bladdered. A Lesson for us all, use regular companies and if you can ask approx cost of fare. Yes I know it sounds far fetched but if it saves incidents like this happening then its worth while.

I do however think Taxi Drivers really do put up with loads of crap so you can understand why their first response is to drive to a police station.

I hope she gets well.... regards.

they lock when the cab is moving or the footbrake is applied.
If it was a black cab it must have had a faulty lock to allow her to open the door whilst moving.

This is really awful.

Of course only 3 people know what went on - the driver and two passengers. But something as trivial as a taxi fare is not worth risking your life for. I really hope she is going to be alright.

My ex-husband is a taxi driver (not in Sheffield) so I know it's not the easiest or safest job in the world.

It's so very sad for a night out to end like this. I'm guessing the taxi driver - although doing the right thing and heading for the police station - must be feeling terrible too.
