View Full Version : New Star Trek on Sky one
royjames 16-03-2005, 20:19 Asa trekkie I am glad to see the new series being shown on sky one,the first 2 episodes looked great and I cant wait for the rest.
Star Trek has to be the best series EVER made,I LOVEit.
I've enjoyed Enterprise immensley - series 3 was a corker and I hope that if this is to be the last series (BOO!) I hope it goes out with a bang!
It's interesting to watch earlier series - like Deep Space 9 - and see how the CGI effects have come along. The recent stuff is much more 'real' than the effects that DS9 had, and they weren't at all bad!
Joe
A.B.Yaffle 16-03-2005, 21:26 I think Enterprise is good... I didn't like Voyager or Deep Space 9. Have they made a definite decision on this series being the last? I seem to remember they almost stopped The Next Generation after one season, but then it became more popular and they kept it going.
I wasn't too sure about the whole Enterprise series when it first started but it grew on me and it wasn't long before i was hooked.
I'm particularly liking this new series (Typical as it's the last :(). It's no where near as politically correct as all the other Star Trek series and that is one of the things i have been moaning about for years. I quite like the Captain Kirk style of 'Shoot To Kill' :hihi:
Of all the Star Trek spin offs I enjoyed DS9 the best, especially the later episodes. The series was alot darker than any of the others which I like.
royjames 16-03-2005, 21:52 Well I loved them all,sad aint it.
As for this being the last series maybe we ought to get some kind of petion to make them change their mind?
I also know the trekkis club meet on sat in Sheffield ,trouble is im always busy shame that, one day I might get to attend one.
My fav are the borg, great invention they are.
Species 8472 are not bad either.
Bikertec 16-03-2005, 22:03 Whats the new series going to be called:confused: hated voyager until halfway through the series then got hooked on it.
weazel05 17-03-2005, 04:54 As an avid star trek fan i think one last series is too kind. It should have never been aired at all in my opinion. If hard core fans can somehow remember this as a cheap ripoff of star trek and save themselves the memories of the appaling flaws in the entire timeline then the decades long tradition might survive.
All i can say to enterprise is may god have mercy on your hull.
Then there are the rumblings of an 11th movie going round in LA.
Enterprise HAS been cancelled, the fourth season is their last.
A petition is already in place, they are trying to raise enough money to keep it on the air http://www.trekunited.com/
I agree, season 4 has been the best yet, finally they are getting around to showing episodes that link in stories to future plot lines, such as the Kilingons looking different in the original series of kirk and co compared to next gen, it also explains why when the first episode was shown (Broken Bow) why the klingon was of the next gen appearance, which displeased a lot of die hard trek fans and confused them, lol.
We have yet to come, by the sounds of it, an episode arc involving the Mirror Mirror universe, which could be VERY good, let's hope that the series continues, may it live long and prosper.

Featuring a small but overpowered ship from the future, I am told by a little bird acting as an agent for a faction in the temporal cold war.

I was as confused as hell by Star Trek Nemesis when they found a replica of Data. I spent 40 minutes assuming it was Lore (yet again).
Lickable 17-03-2005, 21:53 The new film is rumoured to be about an all new cast set in a romulan war. Risky, but what a way to start a series. I wonder how big of a star they will get? Cpt Bruce willis of the USS Kickass?
Cutglass 18-03-2005, 08:19 found this on the net for all you trekkies, it's a wait for it.....

I'm going to have to watch the DVD again tonight Alchresearch, as I'm sure that's one of the first questions that is answered in the scene where B-4 is reassembled on the Enterprise...did you miss that scene? : )
Lickable 18-03-2005, 14:43 Wasnt he a built replica of data beacuse picard clone wanted to, well pretty much be picard.
There are loads of datas anyway, working on mines. It was just the one/two that were unique. B-4 has datas thoughts and memories inside him, therefor could gain an identity.
Lickable 21-03-2005, 11:01 Possible Spoiler Below!!!
I have read on the offical Star Trek Website that, not only are Riker and Troi in the last episode, but the episode doesnt involve time travel. It does however involve a Holodeck.
This only leaves one clear ending...
Enterprise NX01 Crew are a Holodeck simulation in TNG time :gag:
I spose it could also get lost in space and riker and troi Investigate an abandoned Starfleet vessel with a completley dead crew. They could then replicate it in the holodeck on the USS Titan. Pah!

B-4 was a less sophisticated prototype android built by Noonien Soong before Lore and Data were constructed. He was recovered by Shinzon (a clone of Jean-Luc Picard) and used as bait to lure the Enterprise crew into a trap. Shinzon felt that only by killing Picard could he define himself as anything more than a copy of the original.
I've never come across the idea of there being numerous Soong-Type androids and their working in mining operations. Perhaps you're confusing this with the fact that the Type 1 Emergency Medical Holograms introduced in Voyager were used as mine labour when they became outmoded in the Alpha Quadrant (much to the shock and horror of the emancipated EMH aboard the eponymous Starfleet vessel lost in the Delta Quadrant!)?
Lickable 21-03-2005, 11:11 I am sure it was androids mining, ah well!
About my Enterpise ending post. They can't find the crew dead, as Enterprise makes it through 8 upgrades before detonating itself over the Genesis planet in 2285.
So its either a holodeck story :gag: or something else equally as crap judging by Jolenes comments... 'the finalie is appauling'
There must be some time-travelling involved in the later episodes of the final series as the latest issue of SFX has pictures of the crew in the Mirror Universe that show them on the bridge of the Enterprise NCC-1701 and wearing the uniforms from TOS...At least the explanation of the ridgeless Klingons wasn't a let down.
Lickable 21-03-2005, 11:18 There is time travel in the Alterternative universe, but none in the final episode. The final episode dos however include a holodeck, riker and troi. This either means that The story is set on two timelines, or the entire enterpise is a holodeck adventure.
The holodeck explanation seems very unsatisfactory to me as the Enterprise series had gone a long way to making the hazy area of the birth of the Federation a lot clearer. The whole debate about the inconsistencies between the story being told in the new series and the histories that have been concocted in the past was a moot point for me. After all history is always cloudy and I have a guide to the characters from the Star Wars universe that was written before the prequels and the two do not match up in any way shape or form!
A friend always maintained that they would play the "alternate timeline" card in the last episode, having an event erase the timeline in which Enterprise had taken place and establishing that of TOS and thus dealing with the anomalies in the history of the Federation...it looks as though he may be right in principle.
Lickable 21-03-2005, 11:53 http://www.startrek.com/startrek/view/news/article/9996.html
Thats what made me come up with that idea. It seems thats the idea they want you to come up with though.
An alternative timeline would just be annoying. I can't accept this as a possibility, purley beacuse i don't like it :)
All I can hope is that the finale is an atempt to link the Enterprise period with that of TNG via the insertion of "She of the Caked Make-Up" and "He of the Pidgeon-Chest".
I'm thinking on my feet here and trying to make sense of the fact that Frakes has been seen on set in the uniform of an NX-01 crewman and a MACO. Could the final episode be framed by a TNG era story in which Riker is exploring the final log entries of the NX-01 in order to answer questions that the contempory historical records have ommited or that Archer deliberatly neglected to commit to his log (the title "There are the voyages..." might be more than a reference to the opening monologue of TOS/TNG). There has been more than one occasion on which TNG era officers have commented that the early Starfleet pioneers were far more insubordinate and reckless than the latter day equivalent.
The one thing that bothers me is the fact that he's also been seen in a TNG era uniform rather than a late TNG movie uniform.
whoa, didnt realise there were so many trekkies on here :o then again, with half of the people being computer geeks I really should have guessed shouldn't I? lol
I havn't really had much chance to watch any of Enterprise, only just got Sky and I still don't get much chance to watch it with everyone else hogging the screen... guess I'll just download them all at some point... lol
personally I like TNG, DS9 and Voyager... I'm not a fan of the original Star Trek... does anyone else not like the original? :?

Oooh, can't let that one go by - I won't hear a word said against the good doctor! :o
Heresy!

The ire of the TOS fan...I guess the later series just didn't have enough velour, overacting and mini-skirts for their tastes!

I have never seen you get so excited about a "Black hole" before Roy, are you taking something?
And, can we still call it a "Black hole"?

Final Episode of Enterprise.
Trip dies at the end, and the episode is a holographic program on the holodeck of the Enterprise-D (yes..."D" as in how DUMB can you get!)which Riker and Troi are observing. The series itself is not a hologram program, but the likelihood of bringing it back after this poo is practically zero.
Sigh!

Well I'm a TOS fan as well, but it never ceases to amaze me that a certain subset of TOS fans still can't handle the fact that the modern shows are just as good.

Apologies for a double-posting, but I just have to say I'm a fan of ALL the Star Treks, except possibly Enterprise. They all have their good points and their weak points, but each has a charm of its own.
But I've always been very fond of Dr McCoy in TOS and found his vastly overworked eyebrow (second-only in showbiz to that of Roger Moore), very endearing. Over-acting can be quite charming :P
Hang on ...... I've just noticed ...... What with this and my previous posting, I've clearly got a thing for (American) Southern gentlemen - or at least badly acted ones! I must go away and think about this revelation ..... :suspect:
StarSparkle
That holodeck idea sucks so badly!
I'm very 'into' Enterprise and feel that it's hit it's stride in teh same way that all Trek series do - a couple of rough series to start with, then off we go.
The current arc with the augments is pretty good - that ending with Troi and Riker is dire!
Pooh!
I wish I had a good few million quid.
I'd buy the damn rights and prevent that episode from being screened, before getting started on Series 5!

To be honest, I don't think it's that bad an idea. Tying everything into the larger continuity is a great idea, IMO. I just wish it had been the Titan, not the D.
steel_ady 10-04-2005, 17:15 Well trying to get together Star trek fans from the Sheffield area.
Please contact Adrian at:

and let's see what interest we can get together. Together we can keep the spirit of Trek alive.

Usually the same people who complain about Enterprise being naff are the ones who have never watched it after the first two episodes and are replying on very biased innaccurate heresay...

I was disappointed when it wasn't the Titan. Still, there's always the extra uniform that Riker wears that they haven't revealled. I have a theory about that.....
POTENTIAL SPOILER SPACE
perhaps this 'valentine' they refer to is actually the holodeck scene is a holodeck illusion itself, reminding Captain Riker and Troi of their time on the D. We may not see the Titan, but doesnt preclude it being there....
Just a fanboy idea.

Never watched Enterprise as hate Scott Bacula (I hated Quantum Leap so so so so much.
Voyager was poor. I Thought Next Gen and DS9 were both superb.
I also hate the original series.

I fear you have shot yourself in the foot. Whilst certainly voyager had its less than good moments, it did also have good episodes tucked in there.
Scott Bakula has been excellent in Enterprise, and playing a character very different from the one in QL.
You should try it and see.
Ady
capthunter 11-04-2005, 11:10 Yeah, Bakula has been pretty good as Archer. Especially in the latter two seasons.
steel_ady 11-04-2005, 18:03 Season three was good with the overall Xindi arc and as for season 4 - fantastic buld up to Classic Trek. Lots of familiar races explored in far more depth than ever before.

SpiderPete 11-04-2005, 20:50 Cirkey I have sat here and read the whole topic, so had to post as I am now exhausted.
I saw very little of Enterprise so cannot comment although it is on C4 on a Sunday.
I preferred Voyager but only when 7of9 appeared, she made the series, TNG lacked for me, action and spent too much time on the enterprise, although I did like Picard and Data.
Deep Space Nine didnt do much for me.
Still cannot beat the original Star Trek series, Spock, Kirk and all were just "the best".
Also on Nemesis I couldnt quite picture Admiral Janaway there, but by far the best action Star Trek film to date.
On a final note - Babylon 5 was the best sci-fi arc story ever.
capthunter 22-04-2005, 12:41 Just goes to show just how much tastes differ. :)
I like all the different Trek shows, they each have their strengths and weakneses.
I liked the later seasons of DS9, the ones where Sisko was bald and the Klingons featured heavily in the storylines (season 4 onwards).
capthunter 25-04-2005, 18:06 I liked every season of DS9. :)
