There was an article in the star this week about the results of the thomlinson report stating that Sheffield had far more school places than necessary and that some schools may close as a result.

The decisions will be made by Easter. Does anybody know any more about this? What schools might be effected and what the wider impact might be on some areas of the city?

There is a statutory process to follow if any school is threatened with closure. It takes a long time, and certainly could not be concluded by Easter. The same applies to schools that may adopt Academy status. Parents and the wider community have to be consulted, as any such schools would leave the control of the local education authority. The consultation process for Waltheof and Myrtle Springs should begin in a month or so - and yet the plans for these schools were announced last year. That's how long the process takes.

Are these the schools they are talking about then?

I was wanted to know if Abbeydale was under threat of closure as I have been told it's the smallest secondary school in Sheffield and not that many people love it.
