Usually it is the removal the clitoris (or visable part of it) sometime along with surrounding tissues. The most common reported reason for this that I have seen is that the clitoris as a 'vestigal male organ' and removing it ushers in womanhood...

Not that it shouldnt be discussed but im not going to turn this into a thread that is slating other peoples relegion.

And seeing as I am not from a background that advocates this "procedure" I do not feel qualified to speak about it on a open forum.

However, if any would like my personal opinion on this subject....feel free to ask.

It's actually more a clutural than a religious practice and certainly would appear to be more animistic in origin than the product of an organised monotheistic religion?

Cultural it may be, but It's still a foul barbaric practice (in my opinion) and I don't care who I upset :rant:

I've read some reports of it being forced upon women, so that they cannot enjoy sex. I find that quite barbaric. Although there may be members of certain tribes who may chose to have it done, I can't for the life of me think why, but I've read of some tribes who appear to have the most bizarre social practices but to them it's perfectly normal.

They collect them all up and make them into boots.

so, from that I can presume that you don't approve of the practice. I don't understand though why you would choose to hide that disapproval, you are entitled to an opinion, whether you are from a background that advocated it or not.

(PS - if you were from a background which advocated it, then it's unlikely you would critisice it, thus not leaving any topic with very much to debate if that criteria were applied).

He was probably predicting a load of abuse along the lines of

Jackthedog is correct - thats exactly the kind of response I was expecting.

However, if anyone wants to call me racist I suggest they meet my 15 year old daughter first - she is half indian, and may have something to say to the people who think that I am a racist.

I dont care if you are black, white, chinese, indian or pakistani - its the person inside that counts.
