View Full Version : First buses no.51 £1 after 6pm why just this bus?
popestar 16-03-2005, 12:24 i get the bus regularly and often see first buses route no.51 with big signs saying all fares £1 after 6pm. I don't happen to get the 51 but does anyone know if this is the only route with this deal on or are there others (i know its not on the 52 cause i get that one). Maybe i don't like to feel left out but just wondered why the offer is not on all routes - what's special about the 51
The 51 is one of the most unreliable services in Sheffield, every 10 minutes my arse, so glad I can get the tram now.
popestar 16-03-2005, 12:28 do you reckon that's it then nick2 every one else feels the same as you and no bugger has been using it
They just never turned-up, or they turn-up and terminate in town, I had my one and only attack of bus-rage on the 51.

It is probably losing money.

Please feel free to complain on "worst bus route" thread

silverknight 16-03-2005, 13:46 The Evening Special Offer is only available on the 51. If First had tried this across several routes or the whole Sheffield Network before bringing in cuts to other services most users would accept them.
incognito 16-03-2005, 18:27 They are probably trying to get poeple to use it - the last couple of (surprisingly on time) buses down arbo' road to town this evening have been empty bar the odd person.

richynomates 16-03-2005, 19:54 The 51 is awful. I've often waited during the post-rush-hour, pre-evening-out-hour by the arts tower, and waited and waited - sometimes up to an hour, but most times over 30 mins. They say upto every ten minutes most of the day, and I guess it may be correct, cos during my wait, one or two will be going past "sorry not in service" and maybe one that terminates at Pinstone Street. So, whilst they may just be every 10 minutes if you include these, it's not much good is it?!
I reckon it's a trial and will be rolled out soon. I seem to remember the 3-stop-hop 50p thing was only available on the 60 before it went city-wide, but I may be wrong.

jesus... they are i see about 3 of them whilst waiting for my 81, try living up here  (Stannington)
redrobbo 17-03-2005, 22:41 I catch the 51 between Olive Grove and city centre, and vice versa. Never had a problem. Can't take advantage of £1 fare though - my journey only costs 80p.

I actually think that the number 21 or something like that runs a £1 fare after 6pm but im not sure. If not its one that runs up past the Purple night club.
Things you look at while your cold eh!!!!
Sorry just looked it up on the first website and it is only the 51:blush:
· £1 maximum fare on Service 51 after 6pm, 7 days a week
· Services every 20 minutes after 6pm
· Low floor ‘non-step’ entrance to make life that little bit easier
· Modern and comfortable interiors for a relaxing journey
· CCTV for your peace of mind
· Ultra low pollution levels, keeping your travel ‘green’
silverknight 18-03-2005, 21:38 In the small print First classify daytime OVERGROUND services as between 0700 to 1800 Monday to Friday/Saturday. When First launced OVERGROUND NETWORK It offerered services at 10 minutes or better during the daytime however FIRST have since moved the goal posts and its now 15/20 minutes or better on its Overground services. The cuts to Sheffield services have been registered with VOSA so unless the PTE step in within the next couple of weeks your 51 services will be every half hour after 1800 and maybe all day Sunday.
