I know this maybe a long shot. Sheffield is getting brought into the big wide worldwide arena of different languages. Would a section dedicated to foreign speaking Sheffielders to talk in.
I know this maybe a hard thing to police with the language but i feel sooner or later it reality we may have to face.
I just thinking we could be seen as shunting out or being Non politically correct if we don't.
There is a practical snag with this one. Unless we have speakers of that language on the admin and moderating team then how can we moderate the content of these posts if needed?
CADTutor is a truly international forum - but the language of the boards is English (ok, so it gets the usual americanisations and we get to argue on a weekly basis over the spelling of 'colour/color', but it makes life interesting)
with so many translator websites these days there is no need for SF to host multi lingual posts (unless somebody specifically requests eg a French forum looked after by a couple of people who can read all the posts)
Besides - even the government are having second thoughts about making everything so accessible to those who don't speak English ;)
Outcome
This idea maintained at least 10 'thumbs down' for over 24 hours. Furthermore our limited resources and issues with moderating such an area mean this idea will not be implemented at this time.
