Just switihed to 1MB Wandadoo broadband which is capped at 30GB per month. I listen to internet radio from 9 to 5 every day and dont want to go over my bandwidth limit as Wanadoo reserve the right to charge excessively over 30GB limit.

Can anyone recommend some free software that lets you keep a running check on your total bandwidth used, and will remember the same if the machine is turned off and reboooted next day? Other problem is the connection is shared with 3 other machines which will also use bandwidth so I I am going to have to add them together and work out the bandwidth being used every week. Pity no kit available that will monitor the total bandwidth from the LAN router to a network, or is there such software available?

30GB is a hell of lot of downloading, but sometimes all 4 machines will be running with shared broadband access so I need to be careful here........

I know this ain't gonna help you as a Wanadoo user, but BT has stated it's BB is capped (mines 1Mb, soon to be 2Mb, and I get 30Gb per month).

BT haven't put the capping in place yet as they are waiting until they can provide online tools for their users to monitor their usage.

Looks like it's coming soon.

I'm surprised if Wanadoo aren't going to provide something similar. Might be worth checking out with them?

That's one reason why I went with BT's Business Broadband account - I don't think there's a cap.

Having said that, the irony is I'd be nowhere near it! :)

Wanadoo have said that they will not be monitoring it for the first few months, but that's not much use to you if they are going to hit you later.

I've not used it myself, but have heard NetStat Live recommended as a freeware option.

Switch to PlusNet (http://www.plus.net) who have a neat tool to let you see how much of your bandwidth you've used (called view my usage).

Their deals are v good, aswell as having fantastic customer service.

They lead the way for ADSL providers (especially with 8Meg connections on the way very soon :) )

..and then again, maybe not.

BT should have started capping/monitoring on 1/5/05. No sign of it so I e-mailed 'em...

"I am sorry to say that there may be a significant delay in the implementation of our usage monitoring, we have no further information relating to this at present."

....although their 'Help' pages are now quoting August 2005 for implementation.
