View Full Version : Milburn are splitting up tompass07 29-03-2008, 09:54 Many of you may have never heard of the great sheffield band milburn but if you have they are splitting up and playing 1 last gig at the new academy. RIP MILBURN  EdnaKrabappe 29-03-2008, 14:15 Aw I like Milburn. I think they suffered from the monkey curse and never really got out of their shadow even though they are very different. Cheshire cat smile is a brilliant song. WhiteHawk 29-03-2008, 14:29 Milburn are brilliant. Shame they're splitting up. At least we've had a couple of albums from them though. StarSparkle 29-03-2008, 14:36 Aww, I'm really sorry to hear that - I thought they'd got a lot to offer. But like Edna says, I don't think they quite managed to get out of the Arctics' shadow. It's a shame StarSparkle discodown 29-03-2008, 15:34 thats a damn shame. they were better than the monkeys muddycoffee 29-03-2008, 15:50 Who ? Never heard of them. I thought you were talking about Alan Milburn the politician. metro 30-03-2008, 19:55 I love them - anyone got tickets? anyone want to go with me well, well, well, worth asking. I am serious - anyone want to go (nobody I know loves them enough) BasilRathbon 31-03-2008, 08:42 I think their problem was always the name; few people would have guessed that they were an Arctic Monkeys tribute band, even when Milburn played their hits "I Bet You Look Good On The First Floor" and "Drainstrom". Had they called themselves somethink like "The Antarctic Donkeys", people would have known what to expect from them and they'd have done a bit better. At least fans of AM tribute bands have still got Little Man Tate and a host of other Sheffield bands, so it's not all bad........ swordfish1 31-03-2008, 10:47 I love them - anyone got tickets? anyone want to go with me well, well, well, worth asking. I am serious - anyone want to go (nobody I know loves them enough) Go on sale tomorrow See Carling Academy Sheffield website pippadoll 31-03-2008, 20:36 That is a shame. I really liked their album. Maybe it will mean two new fab bands. e3sa934 21-11-2008, 01:23 DVD of the final gig now available: http://www.milburnmusic.com/shop/detail.html?id=9 e3sa934 21-11-2008, 01:26 I think their problem was always the name; few people would have guessed that they were an Arctic Monkeys tribute band, even when Milburn played their hits "I Bet You Look Good On The First Floor" and "Drainstrom". Had they called themselves somethink like "The Antarctic Donkeys", people would have known what to expect from them and they'd have done a bit better. At least fans of AM tribute bands have still got Little Man Tate and a host of other Sheffield bands, so it's not all bad........ as it happens, Milburn were formed several years before Arctic Monkeys, and so it is they who are a Milburn tribute band, perhaps? neutronium 21-11-2008, 13:28 DVD of the final gig now available: http://www.milburnmusic.com/shop/detail.html?id=9 This is a really good music DVD. The behind the scene extras on there own, make for a very good look at a band trying to break into the big time. The final gig main show, is kick ass. Give it a go for Christmas. Shame it had to end. StarSparkle 21-11-2008, 15:14 as it happens, Milburn were formed several years before Arctic Monkeys, and so it is they who are a Milburn tribute band, perhaps? I may be wrong here, but I thought Milburn's drummer taught Matt Helders the basics of drumming? StarSparkle plekhanov 21-11-2008, 18:03 as it happens, Milburn were formed several years before Arctic Monkeys, and so it is they who are a Milburn tribute band, perhaps? And for the years before Arctic Monkeys came along what did Milburn sound like? You don't have to be a newly formed band to jump on such an obvious bandwagon. ShawyTater 11-12-2008, 15:16 Shame they gone, only got a couple of there songs hope little man tate don't suffer same fate. Also hate how NME tarnish Sheffield bands with the same Arctic Monkeys brush |
