I'm asking about this to free up General Discussions board. Mainly sick of seeing it being dominated by topics about Muslims etc..etc.... It would be nice if your not into Religion to browse the forum without stumbling into a unwanted thread.

Out of 40 topics on the first page of the General Discussions section there are three currently dealing soley with religous subjects.

I've quoted the most important bit out of your suggestion. Quite often when religion is discussed on the forum, it's during discussions about other subjects. That's why you stumble upon them. If you removed every thread to a 'religous section' that had religion in it at some level, then it would be just like the General Discussions forum!

So it's a 'no' from me. If you don't like a subject, don't read about it.

Actually, a bigger problem is that most religious threads never reall discuss religion or spirituality. They end up sidetracked in to scraps between Atheirts and believers.

There is usually more respect to other people's views between the believers of different faiths on these threads than there is between the non-believers and believers, irrespective of faith.

I doubt there's the tolerance on SF form certain people to make discussion of religion and spiritual maters possible without some seriiously heavy moderation. :(

Maybe Combining a POLITICAL/RELIGIOUS message base might be something to try??

We could call it: 'Social Issues' and limit it to 1 thread per member per 7 days (Until we see if its gonna work (Members can only start a NEW THREAD on that base every 7 days .. They can reply to other threads though))

Agreed. I've just seen one of the threads on the front page in general discussions and based on one of the latest comments and am disappointed to see that it's already degenerated.

Real hard work to implement. Guess it could be done with coding but again think it could be quite a bit of work.

We are not looking to be a forum for every topic - we are primarily a forum for Sheffield. There are plenty of dedicated religious forums on the internet, simply search on Google. We will, if overwhelmed by threads of this nature, start to direct users to search forums.
