I remember that one - very creepy. There was also one about blind spots on the road, based around the idea that if the Martians came and wanted to steal soem specimens they'd make their traps around blind corners, over hum back bridges, etc. And....the one about parallel parking - the day that Reginald Molehusband got it right! Put the chain on the door before you let them in. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rAjWdYQ0h38) I can't get the video to run, but is that the one with the song that goes something like 'There's a mad, mad axeman who is steeped in sin outside the front door!' Ally68 28-03-2008, 15:22 Ah, yes I remeber it now. Do you remember the coastguard one? :hihi: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=en-elsHuKbw EdnaKrabappe 28-03-2008, 15:25 I remember that one - very creepy. I still find it puts the willies up me 35 years on!! My other favourite is an old Keep Britain Tidy PIB which showed a street completely covered in litter and devoid of any human life, the only animation being a set of traffic lights. Incredibly, the street scene resembled Hillsborough Corner and I think the background music was something like Jerusalem. It was on around the same time as the Lonely Water PIB, early-to-mid 1970s. missymarsbar 28-03-2008, 15:36 I doubt they could show Lonely Water these days without prior reference stating: This short film contains scenes of a scary nature. Merry_Legs 28-03-2008, 16:22 I liked the Tufty squirrel ones - really nice and friendly. Merry_Legs 28-03-2008, 16:23 Also the one where 'John' was standing on a chair and putting up curtains on his own. missymarsbar 28-03-2008, 16:38 I don't remember John standing on a chair, but do remember this one featuring John http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fnOHjDlDR2M fluffystuff 28-03-2008, 16:42 I remember the one about kite flying well http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Cna-MelQjGA&feature=related slimsid2000 28-03-2008, 16:45 The 'beware of flatulance in lifts one'. Think it stared a young Keith Chegwin and this bloke who wore very odd trousers. There was a voice over that was done in a Geordie accent by a man. He said some strange things but the gist of it was about lifts and wind and avaoiding strange men in odd trousers. I think there was a woman in it too who carried her shopping in a basket and talked in a home counties accent. She wore a pald skirt and some sort of cardigan. She had a perm and a neck pen round her neck. I think she had a small dog of some description. The man was bald headed I remember that. He had mad staring eyes and the impression was created that he was not to be trusted in public places. fluffystuff 28-03-2008, 16:45 I liked the Tufty squirrel ones - really nice and friendly. this is a more "adult" version:hihi::hihi::hihi: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1DPEKVV7R9k Ally68 28-03-2008, 16:49 Have a trip down memory lane with this site: National Archives (http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/films/). Some great ones on there that I'd long forgotten. missymarsbar 28-03-2008, 17:00 Here's a good one....Rolf Harris teaching kids to swim http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/films/1964to1979/filmpage_youngsters.htm Ousetunes 29-03-2008, 12:38 Here's a good one....Rolf Harris teaching kids to swim http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/films/1964to1979/filmpage_youngsters.htm This always made me want to go swimming and usually the pool would be Sheaf Valley, the very place which had a painting by Rolf Harris on its walls until it was demolished. Can you tell what it is yet? Rich 29-03-2008, 12:53 I can vaguely remember the old green cross code ads starring David "Darth Vader" Prowse as the Green Cross Code man.. They were great! Wonder if there's any on Youtube? ChrisTodd 30-03-2008, 08:07 The Protect and Survive films to show you how to survive a Nuclear War always stick on my mind. Did the people who were making them really think the advice was good. Lonely Water was probably my favourite though. Very scary at the time. ChrisTodd 30-03-2008, 08:26 "Splink" was funny. That made no sense at all. But if they got it right we remember it for years. I'm sure most of us can remember the "Learn To Swim" song. heartshaped1 30-03-2008, 20:48 Now this one is NOT VERY NICE. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=15CFF8DoYFc I was taken on a primary school trip to a farm and made to watch this aged about 7 ON THE FARM! None of us dared move after it - all the kids were in tears and wanted to go home. Apaches - I'll never forget it. I think the one that drowns in the silage might be the worst one! Morte 31-03-2008, 14:24 Growing up in rural Lancashire I was also shown that at Primary school. I'm often amazed at the stuff that we could and couldn't see. Imagine what the Daily Mail would screetch if that sort of stuff was shown to children now? Ousetunes 31-03-2008, 14:59 Imagine what the Daily Mail would screetch if that sort of stuff was shown to children now? Surely, you mean the Daily Mirror or more likely The Guardian? slimsid2000 31-03-2008, 15:04 Here's a good one....Rolf Harris teaching kids to swim http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/films/1964to1979/filmpage_youngsters.htm Never happen now. Grandad.Malky 13-04-2008, 17:52 What about during the cold war period wasn’t there one telling us to hide under a table and tape up the windows or what about the one telling us to turn off the TV and wait so long beforew we went to bed. shaznay 13-04-2008, 20:12 :hihi: i remember that one, was it called 'your bedtime routine' or something like that. Also remember the national anthem being played, then the white dot and waiting for it to disapeare, :) Myrtle 13-04-2008, 21:00 showing my age, but the one I think it was in the fifties. the man sneezing all over everyone. telling you that coughs and sneezes spread diseases.
