Duffy.

Quality northern soul revivalist or a cheap copy?

I gave her album a couple of spins and thought it was very average to be honest.

Well she's got a pretty good voice and her song was quite catchy. Whether she survives the current trend for sixties soul type style music is anyone's guess. To me it's a pop song that you enjoy whilst it is playing - I don't spend hours thinking about it or trying to knock her.

A wanabee Lulu who's ripped off Only After dark by the Human League.

Her dirge of a single sounds like Sisters Are Doing It For Themselves which makes it instantly dislikeable.

Personally, I'd prefer it if these sisters were doing it for themselves, preferably behind closed doors and thus sparing the rest of us.

That song sounds weird. Think it's the "Yeah yeah yeah" bits!!

Just go and buy a Ronettes album instead, probably cheaper.

I really like it - a lot of the songs on her album are better than the one she released though.

She does some weird thing where she waggles her microphone quickly across her face and it makes the sound go crap(er).

I'm very tired of her. Radio2 play her at least 3-4 times a day.

i saw a picture of her in the paper from couple of years ago in the welsh version of pop idol. she looked so different to what she does now. loads of make up, short hair and had lots of neon colours on. not knocking anyone for the way they look, it just struck me how different she is now and that maybe the way she dresses/looks isn't her own natural style. more the record companies idea. no doubting she got a great voice though. i just can't help but feel the rest of it isn't real. i want to like her but she is more poppy than edgy like some of the others who are around. just my opinion! xx

I think it's an admirable attempt, better then i could achieve and IMHO a little better than Adelle's first album.
I've got the Ronettes, no comparison.

Is she the vampire slayer?
No, but I did think the thread was about 'Casualty' when I glanced at the title. I really should reacquaint myself with this popular beat combo music... :hihi:

she's got an ok voice, nothing earth shattering, it's a bit 'stage school', and she'll disappear off to America and mid table obscurity soon enough, as will all the modern crop of artists, who have been unfortunate to be born into an age where attention spans and general intelligence are lower than that of your average plankton.

meh.

She's just been marketed quite cleverly. I don't see anything remotely interesting, new or talented about her.
