View Full Version : Best Xbox 360 Games iwantoneplease 27-03-2008, 11:16 Just got an Xbox 360 and was wondering...... What are the bext Xbox 360 games? Where's the cheapest place to buy them? Thanks hamatik 27-03-2008, 11:19 Assassin's Creed is apparently very good. Quagmire 27-03-2008, 11:30 Forza 2 is a great racing game, great multiplayer. www.play.com is usually cheap for buying new. I'm sure you could get some second hand bargains in gamestation and on ebay though. Rich 27-03-2008, 11:33 Sega Superstar Tennis rocks! As for cheapest places to buy, online is best, use Game (http://www.sheffieldforum.com/game) or Play.com (http://www.play.com) both are good and reasonably cheap and offer free postage, my only gripe with Play.com is that because they're based in Jersey, it takes their products twice as long to arrive by Royal Mail as anywhere else's does. Nomis 27-03-2008, 11:35 Bit of a racing game addict and the following are great (in my opinion) PGR3 PGR4 Test Drive Unlimited DaFoot 27-03-2008, 11:36 What sort of game do you want? Recent games I've been enjoying: Dead or Alive 4 (fighting) Halo3 (shooter) Mass Effect (RPG/futuristic adventure/shooter) Burnout - Paradise City (driving) leviathan13 27-03-2008, 11:59 Depends on what you're looking for, but here's a run down of games I've played, or have had prolonged exposure to: Mass Effect - An RPG that has the best bits of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and Gears of War. Great graphics, long and winding storyline with loads of minor subplots and stories. If you like character progression and story based games, this is a good choice. Plus, you have to play the game a few times to get all the achievements using different members of your team and using different weapons etc. Assassins Creed - Bought it for my bro who played it for a couple of hours then got hooked on Mass Effect and hasn't stopped playing that since. It looks good and seems quite a quirky idea, but I've heard mixed reviews so be cautious if purchasing this. Halo 3 - Has to be the game of the decade up to now, in my opinion. This game can be for the casual gamer (like me) who's not really bothered so much about becoming the best as opposed to just having fun. Playing the campain in co-op mode is brilliant as you can put scoring on and have competitions with your team mate(s) while actually working together. You can have 2-4 player co-op and it gets chaotic when there is 4 of you running around trying to work as a team, but poaching kills off your mates and annoying them. As you go around the game, you pick up hidden skulls. These are what makes the game interesting later as each skull changes the game slightly. When playing the game at a later date, put different skulls on for different effects. One skull will reduce the amount of ammo that's laying around, one causes the enemy to throw more grenades, one makes the enemies tougher and so on. Then there are the fun skulls where if you get a headshot on a "grunt", you get a fanfare and another makes all the marines with you say stupid things. And don't even get me started on the multiplayer section. Finally, to boot, the Xbox will record the game as you play so you can watch it back in the theatre to see where you went wrong or to replay amazing grenade throws etc. An awesome game if you like blowing stuff up and having competitions. Oblivion - The 4th part of the Elder Scrolls story. Hated Morrowind, the 3rd part, as you could only play the game if you didn't have a social life. It was way too hard and fiddly. Gladly they've sorted it out on this and, having only played it for a few hours, I'm enjoying it already. Much more thought has been given to the casual gamer without losing any of the geekiness needed to keep the D&D generation amused. Good game up to now. Lego Star Wars - The Complete Saga is good if you like puzzles and getting achievements as there are loads of them and you can build your score up quite quickly as some of the achievements are easy to access. It's a quirky game that, at times, does take a bit of brain power. This game is probably better coming back to again and again at later times as opposed to sitting there for hours. Gears Of War - Even the easy setting is still more for the hardcore gamer. I tried playing this alone and got killed in the first 10 mins and it put me off. However, I played it with my bro in co-op and enjoyed it more. This game is not for the faint hearted, but with perserverance, I think you'd grow to like it. There are more, but I've got to get back to work now. Hope it's been some help. I'll probably nip back on at some point to mention a few more. carpetviper 27-03-2008, 12:40 Sorry But I have to say that Halo3 is the most overated and cruddiest game I have ever played on the 360 that is untill I tried rainbow vegas2. Simply the best shooter of all time is call of duty4 it is fast furious and life like both the online and offline game modes are very intense and will have even the most hardened gamer on the edge of their seats. I would however reccomend caution with younger children online as the games have an intermission lobby and there can be international banter not suitable for under teens. All other games I have played dont come anywhere near as good as this game. 1- Veteran level mile high club vet here. Anybody whos attempted or completed this level will understand that I say it with pride LOL. DaFoot 27-03-2008, 12:50 Sorry But I have to say that Halo3 is the most overated and cruddiest game I have ever played on the 360... Single player campaign not to everyones taste, but do you really not enjoy the online battles/co-op games? Joe Totale 27-03-2008, 14:23 Gears Of War Probably the finest online game I've ever played :) There's certainly a few on here, I'd like to get on the end of my lancer ;) Wodoish!!! 27-03-2008, 16:45 Gears Of War Probably the finest online game I've ever played :) You've obviously not played 'Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare then! Joe Totale 27-03-2008, 16:55 You've obviously not played 'Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare then! Oh yes I have!! But due to my colour blindness, everyone looks the same!!! Quagmire 27-03-2008, 19:07 Simply the best shooter of all time is call of duty4 it is fast furious and life like both the online and offline game modes are very intense and will have even the most hardened gamer on the edge of their seats. [/COLOR] I have it on the PC. It is perfect. So much fun. cod4>gears of war>halo3. Gears and halo are good for coop on a single console though. punk 27-03-2008, 19:47 Mass Effect COD 4 PGR 3/4 (not sure if it's still the case but argos were selling pgr 4 for £15 - bargain!) Forza 2 Gears of War Halo 3 Rainbow Six Vegas Test Drive Unlimited Apart from those; Bioshock is worth renting for a play through (very little replay value other than achievements so it's not worth buying). Crackdown is OK if you like open ended games and can look past the graphics, COD2 can be picked up used for about £6(ish) and is a very good single player experience, Blue Dragon is OK if you like quirky JRPGs. Cheapest place to buy them: Online for new games (play, amazon, etc. check out http://www.hotukdeals.com/ and http://www.google.co.uk/products). Second hand: Cex in town (Game and Blockbuster also do second hand games but the pricing is just weird, games often cost more second hand than new???). Rich 27-03-2008, 19:50 Blue Dragon is crap. I only had to play the demo to know that. Turn based fighting is annoying IMO, give me the ability to kick 7 shades of brown stuff out of my opponent in real time and I'm happy. satsuma 27-03-2008, 21:11 I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned Bioshock yet. It's the most intelligent and atmospheric first person shooter that I have ever played on any system. The storyline is well paced, there are many ways to deal with the enemies that you face - you can electrocute them if they are standing in water, set fire to pools of oil and if all else fails stun them and hit them with a wrench. The graphics, particularly the water and fire effects are stunning, and the sound is very creepy in places. bignick 27-03-2008, 22:36 Heres a few good games i personally like: Frontlines: Fuel of War - good FPS not tried online yet Army of Two - Especially good Call of Duty 4 - can play online for aslong as you want, or get caught up in the good and long Campaign Guitar Hero II - Good for a laugh on your own or with friends Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock - Good with friends and on your own, play co-op or Vs online with friends and lots of downloadable songs Mass Effect - Great storyline and playable for hours Assasin's Creed - addictive and very good if you are into that type of game just a few of my faves :D animal2477 30-03-2008, 17:34 cod4,army of 2,dark sector, sega superstar tennis and my fav driving game need for speed most wanted.stay away from rainbow 6 vegas 2 load of rubbish and a waste of money!!! Hecate 30-03-2008, 17:41 Bully is very good. Also Condemned (Condemned 2 is out next week),Tomb Raider Legend/Anniversary and Assassin's Creed. Games I haven't played (or have only looked at briefly) but have been recommended to me: Half Life 2 (the Orange Box one), Bioshock, The Darkness, Halo3, Gears of War (what ever the latest version is). ETA: I buy the games from Amazon or Play. Tomb Raider Anniversary was particularly inexpensive the other week - about £14 or so from Play. Hecate 30-03-2008, 22:21 ...Oblivion - The 4th part of the Elder Scrolls story. Hated Morrowind, the 3rd part, as you could only play the game if you didn't have a social life. I'm just having a look at it now on the Game website, together with the Shivering Isles expansion pack. I was thinking of ordering Viking: Battle for Asgard too, though I think it might be a little too 'whack the enemy with a bloody great sword' repetitive for me. Looking forward to seeing the rest of your reviews :) . mr.blaze 31-03-2008, 05:04 All the games mentioned above are tops, BIOSHOCK is by far the best release to hit the 360 so far in my opinion. COD 4 is a great game, but BIOSHOCK really does have to be seen to be believed. Download the demo and gawp in awe :) DaFoot 31-03-2008, 06:55 Agreed with above - BioShock is awesome as a single player shooter game. However, be aware there is no multiplayer in BioShock if that would be an issue. Space 31-03-2008, 06:57 Rainbow Six Vegas 2 is my fav at the moment, even though the first impressions wern't good. It's totally got me hooked! Lost Odyssey is on of the best RPG's I've played and is massive! PGR4 is a fantastic racing game online and offline. Call Of Duty 4 is simply a stunning game although I don't like the inclusion of infinite enemies until you 'trigger' them to stop. This doesn't spoil the game at all though. Burnout Paradise is amazing online and offline, there's some great fun to be had in it! Just some of the games I'm hooked on right now. lyndix 31-03-2008, 10:39 Guitar hero 3, I`m addicted, you just can`t put it down! gazelle 31-03-2008, 10:49 Guitar hero 3, I`m addicted, you just can`t put it down! Gazelle got it mr for chrimbo, i played all through January, till my brother brought Guitar hero III down....Must play more Assasins Creed for more achievements... I got it off eBay t'other week with Forza 2 for £5.05  Or CEX in town do it for £8 PuressenceUK 01-04-2008, 12:27 Has anyone mentioned Crackdown yet? Thought that was immensely fun. And sorry to disagree, but I thought Assassins Creed was very boring. Yes it looks pretty, but it's the same thing over and over. Climbing buildings is not fun after you've had to do it for the 50th time. segasonic 01-04-2008, 12:30 Sega Superstar Tennis rocks! ^^^ What he said  Virtua Tennis 3 is ace as well. Also if you use the Live Marketplace for games, REZ HD is absolutely fantastic. As are Ikaruga, Speedball 2 and Geometry Wars. DaFoot 01-04-2008, 12:43 Has anyone mentioned Crackdown yet? Thought that was immensely fun. Good call. Though I've played a fair few hours single player, I've not yet got round to playing it on live. Worth trying? PuressenceUK 01-04-2008, 12:49 Yeah it's good fun online too is Crackdown. Space 01-04-2008, 22:04 Yeah it's good fun online too is Crackdown. Ahh I forgot about Crackdown! Great stuff! It took me hours to climb to the top of that tower to get that achievement :) Brilliant game and cheap now too! owlsman 02-04-2008, 07:02 Crackdown = Awsome! :) Great fun! sallonoroff 03-04-2008, 11:40 I've just got an XBOX360 (i still have a healthy dislike of MS, but you can't turn down such a very generous gift from friends!) and i'm loving COD4. I've also got Forza2 and Halo3 which are good, but i've not touched them since i inserted the COD4 disc... I'm loving the online gameplay (COD4, Level 29 and counting...) . beansforyou 03-04-2008, 19:38 I got Viva Pinata again the other day after posting here, it is good :) I also picked up Dead or Alive 4, which is pants. The new maps are being released for COD4 tomorrow aren't they? Maybe I need to buy some live Points. Lisa*Marie* 03-04-2008, 21:11 Call of duty 4 is awesome and also Project Gotham 4 is aswell . But i guess the big one is going to be the new GTA ..... if your into that kind of thing :) DeathAxe 04-04-2008, 10:39 Some great games on XBLA if you have an internet connection. Disc wise, halo 3 is great on multiplayer at home, with four players. Sega rally 3 and colin mcrae are also great. The newer project gothams are not as good as the first two but are not too bad non the less. sallonoroff 04-04-2008, 11:40 The new maps are being released for COD4 tomorrow aren't they? Maybe I need to buy some live Points. Do you not think they should just be released for free? I mean, it's only four maps. Hardly earth-shattering. I'm sure they'd be released for free if they were for the PC version of the game. I really don't get this whole MS Points thing. It's bad enough you have to pay a subscription to MS to play online with your mates, but charging for stupid little add-ons to games you've already paid good money for is ridiculous. And i'd naively thought that all this gamerscore/achievement malarky actually rewarded you with Points to "buy" stuff... but it turns out they aren't connected in any way. So the whole gamerscore thing is for nothing really... . punk 04-04-2008, 13:53 So the whole gamerscore thing is for nothing really... Lies! it's to compensate for having a small penis. But yeah, it does seem a complete rip off to charge people for the game, charge them for an xbox live subscription and then to charge them again for small add ons. By far the worst one for me was Tiger Woods 08, not only did they charge you for the game, subscription and extra courses but they also charged you money to get a perfect character (ie: a char with max'ed out stats), you cannot get a perfect character without spending points (!!!) and to add insult to injury they include in game advertising while you're playing. I won't be buying it again next year. beansforyou 04-04-2008, 19:39 Yeah, it does seem a rip off, but thats because i'm on the wrong side of the money changing hands :) You don't have to buy into it all, I've not purchased anything through the points system, the COD maps are the first thing thats come up i'd be tempted by. Sadly I don't have a penis at all, so my Gamerscore means everything to me!  PuressenceUK 04-04-2008, 20:21 Well my willy must have dropped off as I broke through the 50,000 point barrier over the weekend. The X-Box Live points for me are great spent on some of the arcade games. People not downloading them are missing out bigtime! Rich 04-04-2008, 20:37 Anyone remember Goldeneye on the N64? It's coming out on Xbox Live Arcade soon! WOOT! A reason to buy a 2100 points pack! The only problem i have is deciding which game i want to play on any given occasion. Grand Theft Auto 4 is coming on 29th April (there goes the whole of May for me then...) and with Microsoft shelling out $50 million for exclusive XBOX live content for the game, it should be amazing! Hecate 05-04-2008, 18:59 ...BioShock... I've just started playing this. It's stunning. I've just bought The Orange Box. A friend played Portal part of it; apparently it's very clever, funny and innovative, though he did manage to complete it in just a few hours as it's just a little add-on game. PuressenceUK 05-04-2008, 21:50 Just rented Dark Sector tonight. OK so it's like the lovechild of Resident Evil and Gears of War. Similar shooter to Gears (lots of cover) with zombies and decapitations. Good fun, one to rent for sure to tide you over till GTA IV arrives. jodyh86 06-04-2008, 23:41 got that new vikking game on rent from blockbusters for the week...gotta say ive played it for 10 mins and its the biggest pile of *beep* ive ever played, thank god i didnt pay for the free rental..avoid like the plague. ps sorry if ive offended any1 who actually likes this game:hihi: carpetviper 07-04-2008, 09:39 I see someone is removing my posts why cant the retards leave anything alone it didnt contain any swearing and it is in the dictionary. But they were contracted to make games for them, for the N64. (a bit like namco did for the ps1/2). Donkey kong however is owned by nintendo, rare was set the task of making the actual games for the n64. Back on subject, why is it that most 360 games are online multi play only? Ghozer 10-04-2008, 09:50 The new maps are being released for COD4 tomorrow aren't they? Maybe I need to buy some live Points. Thats one reason playing such games on the PC is much better than consoles, as the maps can be released, downloaded and played free on PC (I dont agree with paying for such things when you have already spent a fortune on the game, I also dont see why we should pay to use Live on the xBox for the same reason... Do we pay to play games on a PC?) FPS, simulations and strategy games are generally better on the PC (Gears of War being the only exception I can think of. I prefer the 360 version over the PC version). I usually think of consoles as being for sports sims, racing, platform, fighting, RPGs, etc. Enjoy your wallhackers and Aimbots You only tend to find these idiots on "private" servers these days in my experience. Most game servers tend to enforce anti-cheat software like punkbuster and people get global bans across multiple games for cheating now, so it's just not worth the risk when you've paid for the game. Edit: Just remember GoW is 3rd person. Still, the point stands. JohnGraham 11-04-2008, 07:24 mice DONT work with the 360 out of the box but keyboards defo do |
