View Full Version : Family Problem teaser
Carlwarker 25-09-2003, 17:28 A family gathering consists of one grandfather, one grandmother, two fathers, two mothers, four children, three grandchildren, one brother, two sisters, two sons, two daughters, one father-in-law, one mother-in-law, and one daughter-in-law.
What is the size of the smallest family for these relationships to all be true?

(This is not useful text. I am inserting it because the forum software thought "4?" was too short a reply. "Space is precious," it said, then it made me waste some.)

Classic Rock 26-09-2003, 09:48 Could it be six?
Carlwarker 26-09-2003, 10:30 Nomme gets the kudos - it is seven.
Two girls and a boy, their father and mother, and their father’s father and mother.

Yah!
My solution was .....
GF GM
| |
F == M
| | |
B B G
GF= Grandfather
GM =Grandmother
F = Father
M = Mother
B = Boy
G = Girl
which is roughly that same as your solution
Nomme
