Well Im assuming he's a celeb.

I saw a powdery blue newish Ferrari on Eccy Road on Tues morning.

It had a private plate of a number and two letter but these didnt particularly make sense.

I didnt get a great look at the driver, I was going in the opposite direction, but he looked young rather than a fat old businessman :)

I was just wondering who it was?
I figure a young man in a 100k car has to be famous round here.

Cheers

Has anyone noticed any new black Range Rovers with tinted windows and personalised license plates such as GA5 MAN or TH3 Z00?

chances are it was one of the guys who own winchester cars near the wicker, they sell all the supercars there and they live in sheffield, and if the plate was something like 19GH it was definetely them.

The first thing that comes to mind from GA5 MAN is "Gas Man"....

That doesn't sound like a good nick name to me....makes it look like you read the meters.

I saw it as well this AM. There are plenty of 'young people' on Ecclesall Rd in nice cars that can well afford to have them without having to be doing anything illegal.

Keep saving up guys :D

I think kids who have parents rich enough to buy them ferraris tend to turn their noses up at living in Sheffield.....even Eccleshall....

I agree applejuice!

In London there are some reeeaally nice cars around nearly ALL the time.

The only thing I noticed about Sheffield is the amount of limo's on a Friday or Saturday night. Of course most of them are rented but why....?

Theres a young asian feller drives a powder blue Ferrari round Darnall a lot, he has a personal plate too. Cant for the life of me remember what it is though...

haha yeah always a million limo's about ! I think they look abit tacky but maybe i'm just jealous ? :P

I think it cost like 85 quid an hour or so for a limo, so quite pricy really especially if you're having it hanging about all night :P

I saw a great number plate the other day up near Uni:

B1 GUM

Was on an old knackered car though.

Made me laugh. Wish it would have had an E before it.

My sister & me hired a Limo out for the evening for our Mum's 60th... It was the best Birthday she's ever had... It was a nice suprise for her...

My sister acted out to be calling a taxi when already we had the Limo booked... 7.30pm This huge car pulled up into our Mum's cul de sac... Mum looking out the window said 'Wow look at that car... its huge no way is it going to turn round here... I wonder where thats going!?' with that my sister & me said Happy Birthday Mum thats your taxi... What!? (she blurted) lol Should have seen her face... her eyes filled with water she couldnt believe it... she was soooo Happy... bless her :D

The Chauffer took us to a little beauty spot to have Champers before driving us to our Restaurant... after our meal he took us for an hour cruise (as they call it) Inside the Limo was a mini bar TV/DVD Cd player the works it was a fab night out...

There was a great suprise for me too... as the bill was only half of what we should have paid... we expected to pay for all the drinks we had plus the rest of the money for the hire... The Chauffer only asked for the drink money an that was it... saved 130 quid  suited me  lol

Oh by the way... the Limo was an ex (car) of Sly Stalone's ;) it was gorgeous :D

May not be a celeb.

We 'borrowed' one a few years ago for a weekend and obviously did a little cruisin' around town.

Well, you have to don't ya!

The best thing to do is not to stare, as it only encourages them.

With the way some folk act you'd think Ecclesall Road was the new Mayfair, rather then a rag-bag collection of over-priced restaurants, rubbish, tacky pubs (hello Champs!) and poncey coffee shops full of blokes with jumpers draped around their necks. None more over-rated than this stretch of tarmac.

quite a few cars with " gas " VRNs are to be found in the COnsultant's car parks at the NGH or Hallamshire belonging to consultant anaesthetists

as the art and science of anaesthesia is often referred to as " passing gas" within healthcare circles

I once saw a car full of young Asians with the number plate "PAK 1S". I was with a Bangladeshi friend at the time and he went crazy with desire: "I want that number plate, I WAAANT it!!!"

The only personalised number plate I've ever seen that appealed to me (given my choice of motor) was 5AAB.

I'd be intrested to know what cars people think are stylish, as opposed to knob extensions or mid-life-crisis cars that I think Ferraris/Porches are seen as.

Very true.

We were glad to give the one we borrowed back cos you could tell what everyone was thinking which left us feeling embarrassed.

Having said all that, it was for free and was a bit of a laugh.

Not really on the subject, except peripherally, but some years ago I worked for a dot.com company for a while. The Big Boss has some penile extension car or other that had some sort of carbon fibre composite body.

We were ecstatic to learn that one day this £100,000 plaything had taken a rear end shunt that shattered the body and effectively wrote it off.

In that moment I finally had proof that God is up there and has an exquisite sense of humour... :D

Why are you against Sheffield having an up-market, cosmopolitan road yet quite happy to accept that London can have one? Just because we live OOOP NARTH doesn't mean we're not allowed a nice, 'trendy' place to wine and dine at. Would you rather they were all pigeon fancying instead?

It's not 'trendy' though, trendy is the Forum, or Crystal or the other fashionable bars in town.

Being trendy and cosmopolitan does not mean you have to own crap cars.

Maybe if you have spent all your money on your flash motor and it's (usually) quite high running and servicing costs, you probably won't be able to afford go out and be trendy and cosmoploitan.

Neither would I.

I'd gratefully accept this gift, and place an advert in a carsales paper at the first opportunity.

I think I'd prefer a TVR to a Ferrari. A guy I used to work with bought a TVR (albeit a Chimera, not one of the drop-dead gorgeous Tuscans): I'm sure he was earning a lot less than I was at the time, and I've no idea how I'd even start going about affording something like that, so I guess it all comes down to priorities: if you want one bad enough, you'll find a way.

I once saw a metallic purple Tuscan in Edinburgh. Ugly as hell.

I'm not against Sheffield having an upmarket cosmopolitan road to wine and dine on.

In fact, i think London Road is coming along quite nicely. Give me Wasabi Sabi, Vietnamese Noodle Bar or Froggie's over style-over-content cack like (the admittedly deceased) Slammers. The good thing about London Road - apart from that it really is cosmopolitan - is that it's generally free of the type of loud-voiced people who seem a little too pleased with themselves and their penile substitutes.

Well at least the high prices and fancy cars on Ecclesall Road help keep the plebs away :D

There are plans to introduce immigration control measures at either end of Ecclesall Road by the year 2006.

Persons will be required to establish their actual wealth before being allowed to proceed. Free car passes will be available for Ferrari, Porsche and Lamborghini drivers, whilst season tickets will be available for purchase by drivers of Mercedes, BMW and Audi.

The rest can stand and watch from behind the barrier

But London Road is quite dumpy in parts. I much prefer Ecclesall Road. Either way though, I think we should be celebrating the fact that we have a road that is perceived to be stylish, where the wealthy wine and dine and also students drink. It's good that Sheffield can cater for as many different kinds of people as possible, IMO, and upmarket style should not be exclusive to London - it should also be permitted North of the Watford Gap.
