View Full Version : Where can I take my dog on holiday for a weekend?
Classic Rock 25-03-2008, 09:56 I'm fancying the next bank holiday weekend away somewhere and want to take the dog for a night or two.
Destination - somewhere within 100 miles, not too expensive, accommodation which will accept the dog and where there are places for him (and us) to have fun.
I thought I'd post this in this section as dog owners are more likely to have great ideas!
Matchstick 25-03-2008, 11:27 How about the Lake District? we're taking our dog there for a week at the beginning of june, but a lot of the cottages are available for a weekend break too.
SpeedDemon 25-03-2008, 11:31 I know there's a big hotel in skeggy, near the seafront that accepts pooches, can't remember the name of that particular one, but these links may help you..

KATIEB_23 25-03-2008, 11:47 There was a good thread about this a couple of years ago... I will try & find it for you.
How many people?
We have rented some lovely cottages for a party of 10 people that are dog friendly.
These places look lovely:

Lollipop22 25-03-2008, 12:00 we're going on the norfolk braods in sept, staying in a cottage, whilst i was looking there are loads of places all over the country with cottages that you can take your dog, we're taking 2 with us. So if I were you I'd get some brochures, there's loads or you can always see about caravans that let dogs in, I know someone that rents dog friendly vans at a haven site near bridlington, pm me if you want any details
Classic Rock 25-03-2008, 12:22 Wow, I'm spoilt for choice.
I had a look at Haven but it's a 3 night minimum, so that would only be good if it is a Bank Holiday; so Lollipop22, if you have more details then please send them on!
There will be 2 adults and 1 dog.
I've researched cottages but have found that the ones I've looked at are for full weeks rather than just weekends.
Has anyone any experience of caravan sites? I've never stayed in a static caravan and wouldn't know how to go about getting one for a weekend - or even if they are available for a weekend with a dog.

We have pet friendly Caravans but none available for bank holidays ..We do let some weekends in the quiet season, however I can highly recommend a lovely little cottage with it's own private swimming pool and sauna, it has a games room with table tennis, snooker, darts so plenty to keep you amused. It also allows dogs so we take ours and makes it a real 'family holiday' Here's the link if you are interested.

Certainly not far, but in a lovely relaxing setting ..
You can take your dog in any Travelodge for just £10 (that's £10in total whether it's for one night or two nights, so just a tenner in total). We've taken Ailsa all over the UK using Travelodges including Northumberland, Wales, Brighton, Cornwall, Scotland and if you book in advancve you can sometimes get cheaper deals.
Lollipop22 26-03-2008, 14:18 contact neil brown on 07968830206, he has plents of vans near Bridlington, I've stayed there, its fantastic for dogs, the caravan site is just up a little path from beach and you can take the dog on the beach and it isn't very busy

I didn't know that Katkin, thanks:)
They keep opening new travelodges all the time- last year, we stayed in Glastonbury one night and then St Austell, Cornwall. If you check their website, they have lots of offers on - sometimes you can get a room for £15, £19 or £26 a night. They do basic breakfasts - the St Austell one had an all you could eat breakfast bar (cooked brekkie, cereals, yoghurt, fruit, drinks) Chris and I took it in turns to go down cos dramaqueen dobe wont sit in the car and sulks noisily if left alone- and we both snaffled lots of sausages and bacon for the dobermutt to tuck into. Great stuff. This year, we're fancying going somewhere in Wales, maybe pembrokeshire, so will keep checking the website for availability and book when it's cheap.

we stayed in little farthings back in february and it was wonderful, ideal settings, enclosed area for doggies and a little pub just round the corner...it was amazing! :o)
CR - Haven is on our black list (and I can send you the photo's if you like)
basically you get to pay more to take the dog but you only get to stay in their lowest standard of accommodation, and as you have your dog in tow you're going to have trouble using any of the facilities as you can't leave the dog unattended in your caravan/chalet
We frequently take Brude to a Travelodge (where it has been known for the staff to waive the dog fee as we've taken a crate with us), and we sometimes book a cottage via one of the cottage agencies such as welcome or easycottages (use the link in my sig and you'll be generating a donation to Rain Rescue at the same time) http://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/rainrescue
www.laterooms.com now has an advanced search which allows you to select the option for a dog hotel. The Prince of Wales at Southport is on our list for a stay in the not too distant future - and the beaches over there are fantastic for dogs
If you particularly fancy a caravan, I think Litha still rents theirs out and is happy for dogs to stay
Lollipop22 27-03-2008, 13:26 the the number i gave was for someone that has his own vans at haven, they aren't let out by haven and I have stayed in them and they are really nice vans
sheffbloomer 27-03-2008, 15:59 A few caravan Sites throughout the country allow pets to stay in them. I have one in Skegness that allows pets and at reasonable prices too. A very quiet site, where pets can run about at ease.
mrswentworth 03-09-2011, 17:08 Center Parcs at Sherwood Forest. Very dog friendly, lovely walks and nice accommodation. Overpriced massively (to keep the rif raf out I think) but if you book last minute and can avoid school holidays you should get a bargain. They do a friday to monday or a monday to friday break. Lovely indoor pool, spa and places to eat too. Happy hunting!
