If your on a tight budget, head down to homebase or b&q. You can rent a carpet cleaning machine for about £30, I've used it a few times and they're very good, I think it's called a rug doctor. They're industrial cleaners but veryu easy to use.

Ive also used Ice...very good.

I've used Greystones Cleaners (268 5913), costing about £233 for 1,100 sqaure feet. The service was excellent (i.e. carpets looked great afterwards; they were quick; nice people; they moved and replaced the furniture). The place stank for a couple of days though and it was damp and horrible for the first 24 hours. I'd recommend you plan to keep out of your house for the time just after it's cleaned.

I use Cleaning Pro on 2854687 for my rented properties. Very good at problem stains like pet and food stains. Cleans my leather suite too, looks like new!
