Hi all

I was grabbed by a customer earlier today to tell me that his nephew has a 6 month old bitch 'Canary' Dog which needs a new home in the next few days. He wouldn't go into detail but assured me it was not the dogs fault and that she was not aggressive.

I know this is a rare breed in the UK and also that they need firm handling and an experienced owner....can anyone help or point me in the direction of someone who can?

Thanks

Is this the same thing as a Presa Canario?

If it is, I know someone with one so could ask for any details they may have?

I thought the Canario was restricted in the UK along with Tosas and Pit Bulls?

I think there's been a lot of talk of it but I don't believe it is, neither is the Tosa IIRC?

Edit: My apologies, the Tosa is on the list

The 4 breeds subject to BSL under the DDA in the UK are:
Pit bull terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino and Fila Braziliero.

The Presa Canario, I believe is perfectly legal and so is the breeding of such dogs.

Hmmn - the guy with the Presa doesn't know of a breed specific rescue.

They are a bull breed though sooz, so maybe one of the bull breed rescues will help out in his case?

I've told him to ask if the breeder (who I believe is in Devon) has ben contacted and he is checking. I have also been told there is a breed rescue that may help? But the site is down.

the presa canaria IS listed on the government leaflet for the dangerous dogs act - I've provided the link for Sooz on a different forum
