Does anybody know what is being built on Wolseley Rd near to the junction with London Rd? I would guess it's some kind of mosque judging by the shape of the construction and the area it is being built in.

How totaly & utterly horrible & depressing. The shape of things to come? Captain_Scarlet 14-03-2005, 08:22 I don't mind there beeing mosques, but this one is a bit large for my liking. I think you can see as far Norton Lees and Woodseats. Greybeard 14-03-2005, 08:56 Originally posted by Tim42 Yes it is a mosque. How totaly & utterly horrible & depressing. The shape of things to come? Why horrible and depressing ? It's not a very salubrious site for a place of worship, in the middle of all that traffic noise, but I assume it is inteneded to serve the community who live in the area. redrobbo 15-03-2005, 00:22 The Moderator has closed a separate post on this subject due to misuses of the subject thread, i.e., rants. However, I'm now going to have my own rant........... The design for the building looks fabulous. The new build will replace what was an eye-sore on Wolseley Road, and will give a lift to this run-down part of the city. It is pleasing to know that former councillor, Hajid Nazir OBE, is involved in the project. The new mosque will also be a welcome addition to the skyline of Shefield. Now for the rant.......as for the so-called parking problems, especially during Friday prayers. Well, I'd trade these anyday for the much wider parking problems caused on Saturday and weekday match nights when the Blades are at home. I have to endure the traffic congestion, noise, fumes, the disruption to bus services, inappropriate parking on kerbs and pavements.........oops, I've just strayed onto the subject of footbal parking problems. Sorry, but I feel better now for getting that off my chest. Hope the mosque has an official opening ceremony, with The Lord Mayor, council leader, civic officials, etc. gneighbour 15-03-2005, 02:25 There was already a mosque on this site. I would say it's beyond me why anyone would object to its replacement by a spanking new building but I do have a good idea why they would. max 15-03-2005, 18:43 There's a thread about it here: Heeley Mosque (http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?s=&threadid=32394) Closing this one. |
