I noticed that the Ring 2 is due for release on April 1st.

Just wondered what everyone thought of the first one? Has anyone seen the original Japanese version?

think it was on sci fi that we watched both Japanese Ring films and I found them to be way more scary than the English speaking ones! But I loved them, I did enjoy The Grudge due to the Japanese aspect of the supernatural "monster". the way they move and the noises they make, ooooohhhh gives me shivers :lol: but I love it!!!

US Remake 4/10 about as scary as watching Eastenders

The sequel is directed by the director of the Japanese Ringu. However, from what I've seen it doesn't look promising.

Horror films should be 18's

I didn't know that they were filming a Ring 2.

I have watched the Ring and thought it was pretty good but not scary (I don't like horror films anyway so I was relieved about that!) but I have been told that the Japanese version is much better. :)

The japanese versions are better......scarier in some bits....her whole body bones cracking into shape while walking towards the screen, her hair hanging down hiding her face *shudders*

Never forget that scene!!!

Id recommend anyone to watch the 3 sequels then watch the US remakes.

We recorded the Japanese Rings 1 & 2 off Ch4 the other night. Just watched Ring 1 and...

IMO there's no way the scene where she crawls out of the TV is scarier in the Japanese version. The US version improved on that scene 100%.

Loved the Ring so watched the Ring 2 at the cinema saturday night. Brilliant stuff!

I agree horror films should be 18's, they should also be scarey, the last few "horror" films have been so lame it's a joke, they have to water them down now to try and get a 15 rating, so more people can see it.

My daughter has seen all the Japanese Ring movies and says they are good. She also like the US one which I thought was crap!! The thing with the hair is deffo scarey and the way it moves - ohhhh no like!! But the story really disappointed me. Same with the Grudge - atmospheric in bits but really crap story. My wee bro has seen Ring 2 and says its ok. I guess it's just personal taste huh.

oh my, The only way I would have a pillow over my head is I were trying to suffocate myself to relieve the boredom. I've seen scarier episodes of Blue Peter

:twisted: I've seen all three of the original Japanese "Ring" films and I have to say that when I watched the US remake of the first with a bunch of friends it was so run-of-the-mill that we ended up talking through the whole thing and only realising it had eneded when the credits rolled!

I can't help but think that the inevitable remake of Dark Water will go the same way.

I really didn't like the first one and the second one, isn't all that great either!!

The best parts of Ring 2 where the attack of the Stags
and when Samara was climbing out of the well.........love the way her back legs twist over when she is climbing

the rest was a bit dull

No way! The crawling-out-of-TV scene in the Japanese version was terrifying and brilliantly shot - the camera lingers for so long it's almost as if Sadoko's coming out of your own television. Without that scene there would have been no US re-make, I'm certain of that.

Overall though, I'd say the American version was on a par with the original.
