Heyesey 18-03-2008, 06:14 PM Dun Doire's run last year was too bad to be true, in my eyes (I'd backed the bloody thing...) and I'd be interested in that if it gets in at the weight. Ditto Joe's Edge, which went lame .. he had a fairly easy run at Cheltenham and should be fully fit and ready to go. Others that always interested me are those that were fancied last year but fouled up fairly early .. Ballycassidy and Livingstonebramble spring to mind. Wouldn't like to tip anything for the other races until some actual entries are in, and I know what's likely to run. I have vivid memories of a friend of mine who staked a tenner each on five horses at Cheltenham a few years ago... all five won, but in different races :hihi: mikeG 18-03-2008, 06:37 PM In the Grand National itself, it pays to have a careful look at horses which have finished in the first 6 in previous Grand Nationals. If they can complete the course once, they can do it again, and very often do. Doesn't mean they'll win but when Red Rum came 2cnd, he was pretty miffed and made sure he won it next time. LJB23 18-03-2008, 06:38 PM Oh I am so looking forward to it. Does anyone know the minimum bet at Aintree? I was thinking at least £5? Strijd 18-03-2008, 06:50 PM Oh I am so looking forward to it. Does anyone know the minimum bet at Aintree? I was thinking at least £5? £2 on betfair.. Or did you mean literally at Aintree? Heyesey 18-03-2008, 08:37 PM The Tote (unless they've changed in the last 12 months) will take £2 win, £2 place or £2 each-way. Bookies vary; in the expensive rings, most of them probably will take a fiver minimum; in Tattersalls, I can usually find at least one who'll take 50p e/w stakes, and there's a good few with £1 minimum. happyhippy 18-03-2008, 09:16 PM The Tote (unless they've changed in the last 12 months) will take £2 win, £2 place or £2 each-way. I'll be honest I've never seen one with £1 minimum, but I don't doubt you. The lowest I've seen at Liverpool is £2, but it has been a while since I went there, certainly for the National meeting. The lowest I've seen at Liverpool is £2, but it has been a while since I went there, certainly for the National meeting. I tend not to go to the busiest days or the busiest tracks. It's quite likely that on days such as Leger Day, Grand National etc., those bookies don't get pitches. At Pontefract on a wet April Wednesday, 50p e/w is not usually a problem. :) For the National meeting, in Tattersalls, even a £5 minimum wouldn't really surprise me, though it would disappoint. In the members' enclosure I'd expect it. happyhippy 18-03-2008, 09:41 PM I tend not to go to the busiest days or the busiest tracks. I remember a while back being at Market Rasen for their proper meeting of the winter, and there was just the one pitch taking less than £5, and that was in Tattersalls. Preacher Man 18-03-2008, 09:44 PM its been about 3 years since i went but it was £2 last time. another tip is go on ladies day and take something to wipe the dribbles away with! happyhippy 18-03-2008, 09:59 PM its been about 3 years since i went but it was £2 last time. another tip is go on ladies day and take something to wipe the dribbles away with! I've been on Ladies Day, and it was horrible. Lambrini fuelled chavs from Chester filling the place. OK if you're on the pull, but not if you're there for the racing!
