Ok, this may seem a little odd! I have just bought a long skirt that has a denim top and a green cotton bottom. I dont like the bottom, and want to dye it black! But I dont want the denim part at the top to change colour! Is there anyone with any advice as Im not very creative and have never dyed anything in my life before!! Is there anywhere in Sheffield that does this sort of thing proffessionally??
Thanks for any help!! Lisa

Lisa, I'm no expert, but try tieing off the bottom part with string. ensure you tie off with the string ensuring that you trap the denim part of the fabric with a platic bag (make sure it doesnt have holes in it!).
So essentially you completley isolate the bit that need dyeing from the rest of the skirt!
I hope you get what i mean - this is a blokes answer to your woe's!

lisa, having thought about it a bit more in the last minute, u may be better off tieing the denim part off with string and a black bag as this will ensure zero leakage onto the denim part.
why string, you may ask, this will ensure a fine line between demin and cotton bottom, rather than a gradual blending of denim colour into black (which you dont want) ... sorry, i am rambling now!
I had this dilemma once as a student. In the end I got an old saucepan & held the section of the garment in it (with the water & dye) the hardest part was keeping any of the dye from getting on the rest of it as I removed I from the saucepan. It's easiesr said than done!
I know this isn't professional at all but it may be one option.

Well answered in pure prawn star style!
Thanks, Im going to try it! My boyf insists that im going to ruin it and that I should leave it green, but ill never wear it!!! Thanks lots, ill let you know the result! Lisa
It worked! Apart from its gone dark green and not black. But still, it looks better than before! Thanks!!
