Ive read in paper this morning that VILLA think it is are after Beatie at the end of the season fo £5m,

Not sure how true this is could be just paper talk!! but would blades sell him do you think?

if we don;t sneak in the playoffs i think that if we could get 5 million for him we should do- let him have another go at the premiership. If you think about it even without him we hav a strong strikeforce-

Hulse- coming back to form now
Sharp- finally starting to play how he can
Stead- playing well and unfortunate to be left out most weeks
Shelton- still needs to improve but a impact player
Webber- on his day a fantastic player, should be fit for pre-season

id take that strike force next season.

Its just paper talk, they have Harewood who has pace to burn & cannot get in the team,Beattie to me is not a Villa type player.

There might be some substance to a story like this, but as often as not it comes about merely because someone called Beattie happened to make an inquiry at a north Birmingham estate agent.

True Heyesey but if we could get £5m for a player close to 30 it would be a good bit of business,I would rather he stayed but you never know in football these day's,every player has his price.

So that's basically the same strikeforce, minus Beattie and Nade, that the blades were all boasting would "romp the league" this season?

no - some unrealistic people were, most others were sensible about it- unfortunately no-one remembers them.

Have to agree with you that it sounds a good deal; I'm just highly suspicious of these reports. If the Press were reliable, every team in the country would have an entirely new squad every six months :hihi:

Beattie is 31 next season, if Villa want to give us upwards of £4m for him I'd take it.

However, O'Neill seems to have a bit more sense.... I wouldn't make too much of this rumour.

scottf

it could be united just trying to talk his price up if they want to get rid of him in the summer.

Well in my opinion I think blades have more chance of promotion next season if they keep him!! £5m is alot of money, but how much do you get when your in the prem league!!!!!

If we get more than we paid then its good business. So far as i know we're not really well off enough to afford to turn down a million quid profit.

9/8:I think you are being very overconfident pal, we have got a good squad, yes- but the strongest championship squad ever- i doubt it.

I'd be more than happy with top six this season... I think this is one of the strongest championships ever. Top quality players are playing at this level now, and a lot have clubs have got more money than ever to spend.

Ever the pessimist but I dont think it will be easy as some people think. In saying that I hope that I have just set myself up for everyone to laught at me at the end of the season :suspect:

On paper we have a good squad. I've yet to see us play, and we haven't had a competitive game under Robson.

Talk of beating records, or even automatically qualifying for promotion, is very premature.

That's a lot of people to not exist...

Quotes from the same thread, Heyesey...

I'd like to beat Sunderlands magic 105 points to be honest.

Same start as 2 seasons ago will do me.Only ever out of the top 2 once-I think.

I'm going for Charlton to be champions, United in second automatic place and I think the Owls can make the playoffs but I don't think they'll go up.

and not forgetting the best one of the lot...

I think they'll be over 90+ Points this season if all goes well for the blades.

I honestly cant see another team beating us this season, this is possibly the strongest Championship team EVER

i'm so giddy i cant control myself..

how many hours till KICK OFF

1 day, 23 hours, 55 mins, hehe :hihi::hihi:

Aye, there were quite a few Blades who got completely carried away, nobody denies that. The point is, there were plenty of others who didn't.

And plenty of owls who said top 6 for them after the finish they had, couldn't wait for the new season to start blah blah blah.

I am sure at the start of every season every fan thinks that this could be the season for their team

That may be true, but it's completely irrelevant. We were talking about the Blades - the team you pretend to support even though you'd far rather talk about the Owls.

It is true i had high hopes for United and was brought crashing back to ground with the help of Robson.
Blackwell has got it spot on with his assessment of United and seems to be getting it back to the kind of results we thought we would be getting.
Beattie should be sold in my opinion if we dont get promoted this year.
I think it was too early to be having players on the sort of money that he was supposed to be on.

Oh please do shut up you silly old man.
I have been to more grounds and seen more United matches than you would if you lived to be a 1000 so dont start this I pretend to support b*ll*cks with me.
Come back and have a dig when you have been to Burnley, Ipswich West Ham, Arsenal etc on a Tuesday night or Brighton, Oxford,Villa, Leicester, Bury, Liverpool, Leeds, Huddersfield,Port Vale, Birmingham, everton, Man City,Man Utd,Hull,Norwich, QPR,Hillsborough, Stoke,WBA,Crewe,Oldham,Walsall,Bradford,Rotherham, Stockport, Wrexham all on more than one occasion to most of those grounds.
See back in the day we weren't very good but old CB was there week in and week out , and you can tell me your version of Portsmouth away the day the linesman got knocked out and tell how many Pompey chased us back to the coaches :o:o

Regards CB

You should NEVER sell your top goal scorer, look at the owls they sold Mclean and brunt there top scorers and now they are fighting relegation. We must keep Beattie for the next season at least, otherwise we might end up missing out on the play offs.

The Blades should be up there this season, top of the league. We have got the best squad in this league and Blackie has got them playing to their full potential.

I'm gutted that Robson managed to hold on just too long to prevent us from getting into the playoffs.

This was a terrible season until Blackie took over, but, I think we will be one of the favourites for promotion next year

As for Beattie, I would keep him as cover but he would not be my first or second choice striker

No choice with McLean, but I do think they're a better side without him,

they do miss Brunty, but when a good offer comes in and you need the money, well it happens.

maclean linked play well but if you look at the goals he scored, how many werent penaltys? obviouslt brunt is a big loss but better to get money than lose on a free. as for beattie, i think you could get a better player than him if you sold him, thats my opinion, never seen him play for you so i could be very wrong

Exactly, how many has he scored for Plymouth/Cardiff/Owls from open play? I bet it will be less than 10.

Beattie is the best finisher for us in my opinion, but his wages to me are not helping with team spirit/finances.

Dependant on fee, I would see him, purely because of his wages.

But if he lowered his wages, then I'd love to keep him for the rest of his career.

NERVY-OWL
23-03-2008, 23:29
yea robbie, if he was on less then i would probably say keep him. heard blades on here saying he was on 30k+, alot for a championship club. if you could get 4-5 million, surely that would get you a decent replacement. not sure how many maclean scored for us but i would say around half were penaltys.

Robbie Loving

From a very reliable source, 35k basic.... obviously with other bonuses included.
