Neutering would also help with his hormonal overdose *sigh*

I assume he's had all the relevant health checks and has obtained his stud book number??

If you really want a nice bitch to breed with, you have shown him and he's had good reviews and you have had health checks (which are vitally important) you should go through your breed club or go to some shows to find a bitch that suits your lines.

It's also worth checking that he has no endorsements in his papers, which his breeder may have put on in order to prevent him being mated and the pups registered as these will need lifting before he can breed, and while you're in touch with his breeder, ask the breeder what lines would suit his.

Being pedigree is not enough to warrant breeding from any dog. You should be breeding 'for the good of the breed' and look only to improve the breed. If your dog has nothing more to bring to the breed, consider having him snipped, which will be much more succesful in lowering his testosterone levels than mating him which will actually make his more randy.

There is a lot more to breeding dogs than sticking a male and female together and letting them get on with it and your dog is also at risk if the bitch doesn't take to the mating well. Many dogs have been left severely hurt when people didn't think to hold the bitch still and she's moved while still tied.

you do realise that breeding a dog who already 'has too much testosterone' will only confirm his idea that he's the top dog in the pack, and if you're experiencing behavioural problems associated with this, things can only get worse from breeding him?

(and ditto everything said above)

Has the vet told you he has high testosterone levels or is he just humping everything in sight?

Sounds like he could do with being neutered to calm him down. There are lots of experienced dobe breeders out there already and they are pretty fussy about who they let their bitches breed with as the reputable ones are trying to improve the breed and would be put off by a highly exciteable dog. If you're serious about breeding though, you need to look into the contract you got with your dog and check out the breed clubs for advice and contacts.

ditto.. I'd say "chop" him, which will help considerably with dominance problems.

In fact, if you're a responsible owner, having him "done" ought to be a done deed anyway.

you can get some pills fom the vets that'll level his hormones until you decide to breed ot castrate

Brude was recently chemically castrated - to test if the full monty was going to be a suitable option
