The American game of baseball is not the same as the one recorded in the 1640s which Bryson refers to this was Rounders where you ran round 4 Bases, I have copy of a woodcut showing the pitch I also have a book of rules which shows Rounders then Rounders Baseball then Baseball. Guess who wanted to buy it from me? I have a medal for top scorer at rounders from 1890 in the Newsham League

If anyone has any old memorabilia we at Rounders England could give it a good home in our National Office.

Ha, just split from a GF who played it, coached it etc etc. Aaaaargh!

p.s. If it's mixed I may fancy for a laugh. As you can imagine, I know the rules like the back of my hand now!

We have a mixed league who are short of male players, a womens league, and we are going to start a Junior league aged from 14 to 18.

We are a very family oriented league, most teams include parents and children some as young as 12yrs old. We ask for a minimum age of 14 if unaccompanied by a parent. Oldest player is probably me at 57 but we have had older players. So if your fit enough your young enough.
If you attend the AGM you should be able to form teams from like minded people on the night.
PS it is a Sporting club with bar facilities so you can make the AGM a social night out also and kids are allowed in.

see you there

If anyone's interested, there's also a mixed softball team in Sheffield. We don't start training till the weather gets a bit better, usually around March some time. We play through the summer, both for fun and in a league and tournaments around the country, depending how seriously you want to take it.

Just put an alternative ground in for people to consider that being Sheffield Transport Club at Meadowhead, contact Trevor Simpson on 0114 2374130, if intersted in using the ground. The main football side should be available throughout the summer.

Here i give some details about this game
the batter hits the ball and it is caught without first hitting the ground, the post being run to is 'stumped' - a fielder touches it with the ball, the batter runs inside a post, the batter loses contact with a post when the bowler has the ball inside the bowler's square, the batter overtakes a fellow batter when running around the posts.

The Head Office of Rounders England happens to be in Sheffield and they are very interested in starting new leagues – to commence next May. In the meantime, people will need to be enlisted, training to commence etc. to get ready for the new season.

I have been to a couple of games and can completely endorse it – it’s great fun, a good (gentle) way to get fit and re-live your school days. You can also bring children with you at the games / training sessions as there’s usually enough space for the kids to go to one side and play football, etc. I think it would be great to have a Corporate Rounders league in Sheffield!

They are holding a session on 14th July at Endcliffe Park, 7pm – here you can have a go, learn some techniques, have a laugh, ask questions about the season, games, teams etc. and see if it’s something you would like to get involved in. No children at this first one please. You would not be expected to run a team or provide a whole team etc. (unless you wanted to!) – just turn up, see what’s what and see how we get on!

They’ll also be holding a taster day during August.

If you are interested in coming on the 14th (or would like information about the August session) please let me know ASAP – men and women both welcome.

If you have any questions, do ask!

I might be interested in this, haven't played since my school days (24 now) but hey I managed to get a B for GCSE P.E. just based on my play for the school team :D

Are there many mens teams? I'm quite competitive so I'd like to know if there we're a league, and if there is a chance of going further than that too.

Cheers
