Henrietta 17-03-2008, 08:18 PM I found this dog running around Marlcliffe Road today; I took it home and rang the dog warden who collected it.
Is it your dog? Do you recognise it?
He was a very friendly fellow, obviously well cared for - I'd hate to think of a family/home who are missing him and don't get him back. He is at the City Council dog pound and they are kept for a week I think before being chipped and put up for rehoming!

Rainrescue 18-03-2008, 01:32 AM Its still in at the council pound - don't think anyone has claimed him yet?
He looks too nice and healthy to be a stray though really. Poor boy

I presume the pound scan dogs on admission?
Rainrescue 18-03-2008, 01:38 AM Yes they do - they scan all dogs for micro-chips hopefully someone will come for him soon, we have another piccie of him on our web site because we put all the strays that get picked up and taken to the Sheffield Council Holding kennels on our web site www.rainrescue.co.uk.
pinklady 18-03-2008, 01:42 AM www.rainrescue.co.uk.they do a valiant job, but its just broke my heart looking at that site

Sorry if I am missing it, but are there separate lists on your website for dogs "found" and dogs "for adoption"?
Rainrescue 18-03-2008, 01:51 AM The site just has dogs on there that are up for re-homing.
We act as a sort of 'CO-OP' of dog rescue sites - which gives a web presence for those centres too small to do one themselves.
However, because its poundies (ie dogs abandoned, lost or homeless in dog pounds otherwise known as poundies) that I feel so sorry for - we work with some councils and put pics up of the dogs in pounds desperate for a home or a rescue place.
Dogs are legally held in the pounds for 7 days prior to rehoming - then put up for adoption - and thats when we can put them up on our site. Some councils do have their own web site where they put up the dogs collected that week but we don't on the Rain site.
cgksheff 18-03-2008, 01:54 AM Thank you.

I was going to ring in a couple of days to see if they could tell me. He only went there this afternoon so I doubt he has been claimed yet - I'd say he was definately an accidently lost dog.. I would have loved to have kept him here, but I don't think the cats would have been too impressed :| Also he was a very 'busy' boy, ready to play, and chewing up stuff in the garden - although that might also have been due to his stress levels! He did sit by my side quietly for about five minutes when I had my hand on his head. He also had lovely white teeth - no plaque at all so either excellent dental hygiene from the owner or a young dog!
The City Council don't auto kill unhomed dogs do they, after a week or so
.
Rainrescue 18-03-2008, 03:05 AM Many City Councils will destroy on the 8th day - regardless of breed, age, temprament etc., - this is mostly down to the high volume of dogs being dumped and straying around highly populated cities - and there simply not being enough kennel space to hold them all.
Sheffield City Council try their hardest to re-unite dog with owner, rehome the dogs from the council kennels themselves or ask other rescues to help them. However, with the high volume of strays and abandoned dogs around the city - this is a nightmare operation and often at crisis point for many parts of the year.
People can help by highlighting dogs there needing new homes which are often perfectly nice dogs as you can see from the ones that we have on our web site. These are all sat in the kennels as of this Sunday night (15/3/08). By more people seeing dogs needing homes, maybe they wont just automatically take a puppy and it may also stop people breeding so many dogs when people see just how many there are unwanted in just our city alone.
puddinburner 18-03-2008, 12:59 PM Awwwww...he's lovely, sheff city council find em really good homes as they did with the one I found. They phoned me a couple of weeks later and told me they had....brill.
katkin 18-03-2008, 02:06 PM aww someone somewhere must be missing him, surely? Maybe you should post his details on the RSPCA lost and found site too (you can do it online and we've just reuinted a cat with its owner so it does work) as well as on Doglost and the missing pets register? Be shame for him to be PTS before the owner realises where he is- maybe someone was supposed to be looking after him and he escaped.
Links here http://www.nationalpetregister.org/index.php

and I see the doglost link has alredy been given above
Rainrescue 18-03-2008, 02:18 PM I don't think the one on our site is the one you found either - now that I look closely at the pictures. Oh well - lets hope its made a few more people aware what nice dogs there are waiting for homes at the Kennels.
Lets hope the little black boy gets back home soon.
KATIEB_23 18-03-2008, 02:43 PM He is gorgeous, I hope he is re-united with his owners soon :)
joanne5600 18-03-2008, 03:15 PM i know someone lho has one like him on dunella road will see if its hers - was he giddy about 8mnths old !!!
wyliet 18-03-2008, 04:29 PM OMG!! I recognise it, and your description in terms of his personality etc sounds so similar to my ex-girlfriends puppy. Do you have any idea where he was found?? Obviously its a little sensitive me contacting her straight away (being an old girlfriend and all) however I am really worried that this is her dog. I do have information that can confirm his identity. She was having difficulty training him to be obedient etc. Was it Chesterfield Rd area by any chance?
Could you maybe contact me back?
wyliet 18-03-2008, 04:34 PM My apologies, I've seen that you mentioned the area he was found. Just very strange, even the collar is the same as I remember!! Very weird! Im going to try to follow things up. Thank you for posting this.
IluvStaffys 18-03-2008, 05:39 PM has this lovley dog been reunited with its owner yet ?
after looking at the Rainrescue website, there is a beautiful 3 month old staffie pup needing adopting which my family are definately considering, he is absolutely beautiful.
Oh Tess i hope you go for it!
I met this beautiful pup to take his picture for the site and he is a very frightened little boy, not how a puppy should be. With time and patience he will come round and get used to how life should be and revert to puppy behaviour
Let us know how you go on. It is so satisfying to see these dogs who are terrified and in a state go on to find lovely homes for life :). As long as people can continue to keep supporting rainrescue we can continue to help the poor lost, stray and abused dogs of our city
joanne5600 18-03-2008, 08:53 PM this dog was the one i mentioned and now its back with the owner
IluvStaffys 18-03-2008, 11:01 PM thats good news :)
Henrietta 18-03-2008, 11:58 PM Has the dog been taken home? What is his name? Can I take down the 'Is this your dog' posters now??? :)
.
Henrietta 19-03-2008, 12:01 AM The ladies at Granvilles said they thought he came from up Dunella Road. :) Oh I do hope he is back home!

Ah if you know about him, could you tell me how he is with children? the one main drawback is we have a three year old who would more than likely want to play with him i.e pull his tail etc and we dont want a dog who may be vicious.
joanne5600 19-03-2008, 02:17 PM the one on this thread is called nacho
Strix 20-03-2008, 02:46 AM Ah if you know about him, could you tell me how he is with children? the one main drawback is we have a three year old who would more than likely want to play with him i.e pull his tail etc and we dont want a dog who may be vicious.
If you are planning to have both children and dogs in the same environment, you really do need to have boundaries for both. If a dog is hurt it is more than likely going to want to defend itself, so it is essential that children understand that pulling tails or ears will not only hurt the dog but could result in them being hurt too
too many people these days seem to believe that a dog should tolerate all sorts of unpleasant things - if they are administered by children - but why should a dog suffer? Please don't refer to tail pulling as 'playing'
Rainrescue 20-03-2008, 05:46 PM Tess - did you go down to see the young boy?
I know he is scared - the staff have all said so - but obviously - you have to be wanting to take on a dog like him. Hopefully he gets a home soon - the pound kennels are no place for a babe so young and scared.
